| I used one for casting over a five day trip last fall. My right thumb tendons got real sore latching and unlatching the reel. Very smooth and super strong reel but not my choice for a casting setup. As for trolling, it's probably a good choice. |

Location: North/Central WI | I love my saltist 30's for big rubber and dbl 10's...manual clutch doesn't bother me one bit. I plan on buying one more for next season. |

| I have a 20 with levelwind. Don't really like it for lighter baits, like dbl 10s. Its spool tension isn't the best IMHO, too many backlashes. Could be the line too, use performance braid. I love it for bigger baits though. |

Location: Minnesota | I use my Saltist 30TH (Non-levelwind version) for live-bait fishing... and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! Clicker on and freespool it... works perfect!!! Managed to land two last friday on live suckers... Saltist mated with 9'0 Telescoping XXH TI Rod works wonder!!! |

| Saltist 20 is a great reel. I have no problem throwing blades and smaller baits on it. Honestly if you are decent with a baitcaster you shouldn't have all that many problems. |

| Anyone know if Diawa came out with a stronger spring for the spool release? After the second one broke, I'm using it without one. Works OK but twice it engaged on the cast...don't know if my thumb hit it or just didn't get it all the way down. Not good on the reel and scared the hell outta me. |

Location: Southern MN | I've been using a Saltist 30 levelwind for my blade/general lighter duty rod this season. It does seem to backlash easily, minute adjustments in the spool tension make a big difference. Other than that I love the reel, brings in blades at warp speed when needed and feels very solid. I use it for a wide variety of baits and its done well for me. Haven't had a problem with the spring yet but I don't fish every day and realize its only a matter of time. |

Location: Lino Lakes, MN | Yes there is a heavier spring for the Saltist out now. I was confused when trying to replace one in my 30 this year. the only pics I could find online were for a slightly different modle or the spring was installed backwards.
the Saltist reels are not a bad reel to clean and work on. It just takes some time and and good lighting.
Take digital pictures and have them ready to look at if you run into a snag.
I picked up the parts from Bass pro in Fridley MN. I bought 3 springs and a couple of the plastic level wind gears. I can now do a repair in a pinch if needed.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | Daiwa has a new spring, this one should hold up, if they have it in stock ????
If U have alot of backlashes, take out the spool bearings and clean them with carb cleaner then soak them in Acetone, blow dry them with a hair dryer and then use Hot Sauce Grease, I will remove one of the shields and fill it with grease then replace the shield, that will slow down the spool bearings a litttle so U won't backlash as bad. Also as U can see in pic there is a plastic bushing U can replace with a 3x8x4 bearing so the reel will crank smoother, use grease in that one to.

| Thanks! That's what I was looking for. I'm not exactly sure how it fits in either but I'm sure I can figure it out. The ones I took out were in pieces so I had nothing to go by. |

Try greasing the spool bearings or go to Hatteras Jacks site they sell a Custom Knobby Magnet spool braking system that is sweet.
