I've got some unexpected time on my hands these days and was thinking randomly about the holidays and looking forward to the show season.

That got me thinking about the many lures that I have been unable to sell/trade at the swap meets. Admittedly, some of these are "out of favor" lures, out of the mainstream lures i.e. Wood on the Water Tap Stick, or lures that trends have sort of left behind i.e. Manns 1 Minus (although shouldn't be left behind....see Muskies on the Shield ;). Many lures are brand new, many just like new, all of them in good working order. I do usually end up giving a few away to some of the kids at the swap meet.

I'd like to take that one step further and give lures to kids NOT at swap meets. In other words, I'm not talking about kids like mine or Sled's or TJ's secret love child who are around fishing and have access to lures normally. I'm talking about kids in less fortunate situations.

1. I do not want to just send lures in response to random posts here
2. My thought would be to start with orgs such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters or Boys and Girls Clubs
3. Dannyboy, I recall you do some type of annual kid fishing event. Would you have any need for give-aways (if you still have the event)? Anyone else do things like this?

If you are are familiar with options such as I have mentioned, or other options, that might shorten the curve for me, your responses would be appreciated. Posts or PMs are fine.

Hey Mo,

What about donating them to the Youth Director for the Milwaukee MI club? Maybe with a stipulation that they are to be "given" either to one kid, or a new youth memeber, or to the BB/BS outing they do in May. Just a thought. (ps, don't get rid of the mann 1-. Those things are killer early season bass baits.

Mike

What a great offer, no matter who gets the lures. I am president of the Flatlanders Chapter of Muskies, Inc and we hold an annual "Free Fishing Day" for the kids in our community (Rockford, Illinois area) on Pierce Lake. We provide free lunch, games, toys for each child as a final door prize, fishing poles and bait for every child that comes to the event. This is open to the public. We make sure to give each child the brand new rod-reel that they use to take home in hopes they will continue to fish in the future. Your lures would be a great addition to this annual event. Please consider this and contact me if you are interested.

Thank you.

Don't want to speak for Danny, but he is a friend of mine and we are both members of the Boundary Waters Musky Club.... I can tell you that Danny does still host an annual kids fishing outing and that might be a great event to donate them to. If he doesn't respond on here, I can touch base with him for you.

Just a side note but there are also a lot of Children's Hospital charities that help with parents needs and also a few that build playgrounds or buy toys with donations. I can dig into my emails from last year and see what I can find and see if they are having events again in 2012. I know a LOT of the MI chapters also have kids days and outings too.

Our chapter 41 of Central Ohio have a one day event that we used to get funded 100 precent the last few years we are covering 60 percent ourselves. We have between80 to 110 kids that we give them a rod and reel along with a bait that is made by one of our locale or rwe try to raise money to buy baits at the shows. When the are done for the day they have a rod and reel and a bait that they take home and call there own. We also feed them that day take pictures of them and there fish as well as our members helping out. Any xtra baits would be fantastic for us. email me at [email protected] if you think you can help us out. Thanks Doug Dible Chapter 41

Wow. Looks like I don't have to do any searching!

I'll be getting all the spare lures I have organized over the next month or so. I'll be in contact with several of the options out there. Who knows.....maybe some other muskie freaks out there with a "few too many" lures will follow suit

Thanks to you all for the responses.

Also, might want to hold a special sale or auction and donate the $ proceeds to any charity you would like.

I would be interested in giving some of my lures away as well. I have a lot of new stuff that I never have used that I could give (and ship free) for some less fortunate people. Some message boards do a Karma type thing, maybe that could happen here. PM me and I will help out.
