| I have seen this before on videos/when I have been fishing and was wondering if someone wouldn't mind explaining how to do this ? I understand the basic premise of it if but wasn't sure about how to rig this up the best way. |

| I've never seen anyone run blades (Colorados, French, Willow, etc.) in front of crankbaits, but there are several videos of guys running spoons and what look to be dodgers (as you would for salmon) on the St. Lawrence. The dodgers are pretty simple: main line to the front swivel, leader connected to the lure runs to the rear swivel on the dodger. Lengths are your choice, but the action from the dodger on the lure will be more subdued using longer leaders vs. shorter leaders. Not sure how to rig the spoons, but assume it's a pretty similar approach (though I did see a video today where the fish looked like it was hooked on the spoon, so I'm not sure how you rig the spoon so that it doesn't foul on the leader going to your crankbait). |

Location: Oconomowoc, WI | Leaders and Lures makes a couple of great trolling leaders that have the blades on them. Gene makes a new rig that is weight ready, which allows you to get cranks down to depths that couldn't be reached otherwise. Check out all of his stuff, you won't be disappointed!

| I know there are some guys who've put double 10's and 13's on trolling leaders in front of 10" and 13" Jakes and other cranks that they troll on LOTW. Don't know that it makes that much difference either way, in terms of catching fish, but it is something a little different that creates a little more flash and vibration. The blades are put on the leaders just like they'd be on a bucktail shaft with clevises, as far as I've seen.

| I have done alot of the described blades in front of cranks. I did a bunch of video shoots of the complete line of Luhr Jensen Lake trolls like the one in the video that I just posted.

| I was told there are some GB guys using showgirl size (and smaller) blades in front of their 3' trolling leaders..
If you have any bucktail making wire, you can make some pretty easily. 3-4 beads and a set of blades on a short wire..
Tie the front of that to your line, and hook you leader to the back of it..
Or take the hook off a showgirl....... and hook your trolling leader to that...

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I was wondering how far in front of the bait you'd want to run the blades? I was also wondering if youd be able to simply put a clevis on the leader between the snap and swivel and lightly crimp a rubber or plastic bead maybe a foot in front of the snap and the crankbait. |

Location: Racine, Wi | Probably don't want to do it on the leader as it will wear through the floro or wire if it's too thin at trolling speeds. Best to go with the above suggestion and just tie up a short bucktail wire with a few beads similar to the "bull dozer" blades then run your leader off of the back of that. |

Location: NE Wisconsin | Many years ago some anglers would attach a Skinner Spoon in front of a Pikie Minnow. Hopefully I will be able to attach a pic of one which caught many fish.
