So I fried my level wind this last weekend due to ice build up on my reel and was going to replace it on my own. The guide line pawl (0042) was bent and I had an extra one laying around but that did not solve the problem. I figure it's the worm shaft (BNT 3698). Has anyone replaced these on their own? Basically my question is when you replace the worm shaft, do you have to get into the internal gears or does it just slide out?

You will need to remove the handle, star, R-side plate, gears, and then the worm assembly. Not an easy job. Sincerely, Mark -Dave's Reel Service

U should also replace the line guide, part # 3992 is the line guide from the 300E, it has a TITANIUM guide, the DSV are a hard plastic and will not last long using braid. I do that on all 300DSV that I SuperTune. Also I have Ceramic Pawls which will hold up longer then the stock metal pawls.
