I recently bought a Lowrance Elite 5 GPS unit. Being that this is my first GPS unit, I'm really new to this technology, and wondered if anyone has this unit or knows of it , to help me out with a basic question I have. The manual isn't very helpful.
What I want to know is , once on the "water" of choice, how do I start my chart plotting to start my "milk runs" for trolling, AND how can I go over those lines I've created to troll repeatedly and then be able to "save" for future runs? Hopefully, I'm not too vague, and any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks guys!

I have this unit up front on my boat.

Not sure I totally understand the question.....but what I do is get comfortable with that area of the water I want to troll or cast, and I'll just drop icons where I need to make turns or where there are underwater features or obstructions I want to go over...or avoid. To run it again I just connect the dots or avoid the obstruction icons as necessary.

Start a new trail at the beginning of your desired trolling path, motor over your route or fish it or however so you lay down the path itself on the GPS,,,,, and when you're done, just save it as a trail.

Never really messed with routes, I've just saved trails. I think having icons is more handier anyway because you can mark out specific features of the area and work them accordingly later, either trolling or casting, rather than just having a path or a route you're following every time.

I tend to drop icons but I may try using trails instead - never thought of it???
I guess I can turn my trails off and then turn it on for a drift, save it, then turn off the trails after so that I have a few trails on my map to follow but not trails everywhere. I need to go learn this feature.
The manual is terrible but the unit is solid.
I like the LMS software system a little better but the elite is a good unit for the $$$.
