Muskie Fishing -> General Discussion -> Late Fall Fishing Techniques

Subject: Late Fall Fishing Techniques

I have located bait along some deeper shorelines just like it's supposed to be. My question is will the muskie be positioned under and around the bait or off/out suspended from the bait? Should I fish/troll out away from the bait or thru/under the bait?

Thanks

Make multiple passes. Work the snot out of the area if you see a lot of baitfish or arcs. I would try and troll over the baitfish or around them. If you can have multiple lines, use planer boards to cover the area and try different depths/lures.

Just because it's late fall doesn't mean you have to fish deep. I caught one 3 feet down 3 days ago. That might depend on water clarity or the type of baitfish or the specific body of water.

Your edge is knowing where the bait is. If you run your lure through them they will scatter move and rejoin somewhere else not always followed by the Muskie. I would do everything I could to keep the bait ball in the area and stable. The rest can be a waiting game. Good casting area also. If you know you have fish on the feed then all bets are off and the bait ball is the last worry. Put something down there to stir the pot up...get the girl excited, you know.
