planning to fish this saturday in NY on a smaller lake with a buddy of mine who id really like to get a nice fish. ive been doing real well on this lake the past couple of weeks but this saturday the forecast shows a big high pressure system with sunny skies, 50degrees, and a 4mph ese wind which from past experiences means zero maybe very little (like one follow) action. We plan on fishing most of the day from sun up to dusk but what would any of you guys recommend for these types of days for muskie? Ive been lucky enough to get out most of the season on better days or pre front conditions but saturday is looking like its not going to change at all throughout the entire day. any pointers? thanks

entirely casting, max depth is around 30 feet so not that deep at all. panfish and alewives are the forage base

Warm day might be good in the late fall, especially mid-day.

On clear water under those conditions I typically concentrate locating the best most likely looking areas so I can return and fish there one hour either side of sundown.

You're still fishing all day, hopefully locate something that gives you enough confidence to return... preferably a fish or two.

Some of my best days and biggest fish have been flat calm, bluebird sunny days. Actually all my big fish have been boated on these type of days. Fish deep and slow... Simple as that. If you find fish or know where fish are then I would really effectively fish that area, don't just make you run by it casting. Make multiple casts to the same spots time and time again. You'd be surprised how the fish won't eat on first 1-3 casts but I've had luck hooking them on 4-7th cast. If fish use the deeper water in fall there then I'd stick to tubes, dawgs and a Bondy Bait. Or just locate baitfish and pound the heck out of it during majors/minors. I'd take a bluebird, flat calm fishing day over wind, overcast and quote on quote "Muskie Weather". I fish all kinds of weather but have much more success fishing the pretty days on my water which is pretty clear water...

I would take a calm day right now - by luck of the draw every time I have had the time hit the water the last month and a half its been nasty windy... a 4 MPH day would be a blessing. on the flip s wide even with the nasty winds in the metro, mn yesterday I put a personal best 50" in the boat, so I guess I shouldnt complain to much.

Like has been said some good days to be had in less then ideal conditions - plus it beats sitting in house or working the honey-do list.

Yup, look for the deepest breaks and hop a jig down them or just above them to make the fish rise up to eat.
