I have been a VERY good boy this year, and I want to ask Santa for a underwater camera. We fish for Musky's mostly, but panfish with the kids too. What is the best underwater camera on the market? I will forward info to North Pole!! Thanks!

Hambone,

A couple of options for you, the Aqua-Vu micro is a great unit for scouting and is obviously super compact. My 8-year old loves to take breaks from casting and look to see what's down there. If the kids are younger, may fight over the unit or you do a lot of ice fishing from a shack a larger model with a full screen is a good bet for the kids. The Aqua-Vu AV740c is state of the art right now in color systems and the AV710 is an excellent camera with a few less features and smaller price tag. It really comes down to how you plan on using the system. Open water mainly or scouting, the Micro is tough to beat. Keeping the kids occupied while ice fishing, a traditional system with a larger monitor is better.

Feel free to shot me further questions.

I have owned both an Aqua View and a Marcum underwater camera. Both are good. I do miss the fish shaped covering on my old Aqua View----had mutiple muskies swim up and bump it or hang around checking it out for up to 20 mins. Also seemed to draw other fish in as well. Can't say I've noticed it as much with the Marcum, where the camera just looks like a camera. As far as the Marcum advantages, I think the picture is sharper and I like the setup better.

One thing I will suggest, no matter what you get---either buy a unit that has a panning option or buy the Marcum adapter that attaches to the camera cord and spins it underwater for you. Nothing worse than hassling with trying to keep your camera in place and having the ability to turn it with precision under the water can't be understated. Not a cheap upgrade, but you'll be glad you did it.

I have also run both. I would get the Aqua-Vu, as Chris said it's state of the art. Good folks up there at Aqua-Vu, too.

The Micro would be good for looking around, but the kids will want to all look at one time, so the larger screen is a must in the shelter for me. I even added an extra 7" color LCD screen to the video out on my Aqua-Vu in our larger shack so everyone can see what's up under the ice.
