Wondering if anyone has a particular water temp in which they choose to shut it down for the season? I fished until my poles froze up last year, little success below 50 degrees however. Any opinions would be appreciated, thanks!

When you throw a cast and your lure bounces off the ice, it's probably a safe bet that you've only got a few days left.

What day does the season close? That's the day you quit. Even if the water you are fishing locks up and there is still an open season they can be caught through the ice. Late November, first ice, jigging with heavy baits can be a blast.

Until the ice is too thick to push the boat through. Late season cold water means shorter feeding windows for the most part, so patience can play a role, but we are always out every year until the lakes lock up tight (or until the wife tells me to shut it down for the year, but by pre nup, that is not to preceed the end of November )

What the heck Joel! You could have shared that pre-nup knowledge when we were in the boat and I was single. That little nugget of information could have helped my future marriage. Hmmm, maybe a post nup is in order.....

My best day on Pewaukee last year came when the east end was iced up and I had to break a little shoreline ice on the west end to get out.

Ice up, is when I quit..... Some of the best muskie fishing fo me has been when the water is 35-45* (in N.Mn.)

November is one of my best months both for size and quantity of fish caught. Fishing deep with livebait is usually my most productive method. Here is a pic of a fat Vilas Co. 45" that was caught the last week of November 2010 when water temps were about 37 degrees. This fish was caught in 45 fow off a point that breaks sharply into the main basin. I spend most of my time in November on spots such as this. One of nine fish we caught in 2 days.

fish until the lake ices up and you can't get out as others have said...fishing windows tend to be shorter but some big ones to be had..this fish was caught 2 days before you couldn't get out due to ice....casting can be really good to the end as we boated a couple this day and missed a couple more ...

All the way to ice up for me too and it's my favorite time plus the crowds die down some. Only bad part is if Air temps are below freezing and your gear starts freezing up. If you can troll, limit how much you bring your lines in as much as possible. If you can't troll, dragging suckers is probably your best bet.

My favorite is when the Air temp is above freezing and you can still cast with out locking up your reel and guides and also still fish suckers too.

Late November pic of a morning you had to break ice but could still fish...

Thanks for the info guys, I was hoping my lack of success was more of a me thing, and less of a muskie thing. Good luck out there!
