Location: Maple Grove, MN | Back about ten years ago, I had trouble with a guy with a big red Ranger on Minnetonka that seemed to actually look for my boat. He saw us release a couple of nice fish one morning and seemed to think I knew something. What a moron. It didn't matter where I was, he seemed to drive around until he saw my boat and then would pull in and start fishing about two casts in front of us. Sometimes he just gave us dirty looks and other times he would scream at us for fishing "his spot" - even when there really was no spot and we were just casting a long shoreline or weedline. One good thing was that he wouldn't show up on Saturdays until about 9:00 am, so at least we got four of five hours of fishing in beforehand.
I wasn't really sure what to do. I asked him to leave me alone, but he just screamed at me. I tried moving to other spots and that worked some of the time, but all too often he would follow me and his boat was much faster than mine. So, I just started fishing behind him. The poor guy about blew a gasket after one of my buddies caught a 45 inch Muskie right behind him. I guess it didn't help when I rubbed it in a little. Well, OK, maybe a lot. He mostly left us alone after that.
I haven't seen him or his boat for years. I am afraid the poor guy may have died of a heart attack or maybe just gave up Muskie fishing. I don't think Muskie fishing suited his temperament.
Getting cut off can be irritating, but one can still catch fish even with people ahead of you or behind you.
