I was throwing a medium sized spinnerbait and the Toro 60 would not reel. The thumbar did engaged to reel but when you tunr the handle you turn the handle and nothing happens. I had to spin the spool with my thumb to recollect the cast I had made.

Sounds to me like the pinion yoke may be broken, causing the pinion gear to move out of position and not engage the other gears.

If that's not it, check the A/R bearing for excessive wear. I completely mangled an A/R bearing this year. Although it would still reel, it would slip intermittently and during the 8, line would just free spool back off.

you may have sheared the spool pin below the pinion gear.

Happens from time to time with my Toro, its when i havent pushed the clutch down far enough, i just press it till i feel it click a little bit and start reeling.

Otherwise, just open it and look at the gears and the little pin in the spool hat connects to the pinion.

Does it engage if you flip the thum bar up with your thumb?? Had that happen on my HS, not sure what was wrong, can't remember, but they fixed it for free in just a few minutes.

Happened to my dads, the spindle broke free and had to be replaced. It was under warranty for him, hopefully it is for you too.
