Carp fishing was very interesting. We could get little ones to the shore with lighter tackle but all the big ones straightened out hooks or broke the line. Even the trusty steelhead rod wasn't enough. We quit early and came back the next day with my jig/creature muskie rod loaded with 45# PowerPro, and 4X hooks and then we could get the bigger carp to the swamp/muck in which we were standing. We caught a few carp over 10# and maybe 2 over 20#. Toughest fish we ever tangled with.

I have a similar story and it turned out to be a ginormous foul hooked sturgeon. It tried to eat a depthraider on an outside edge between weeds and cribs. Towed my 17' tiller boat around from 2' fow to 20' over an approximate 150 yd area and took an hour before I could land it.

There is probably no chance I'll ever handle a freshwater fish that big again.

+2 on fishing w/ Riverman! I would love to go out west sometime for big sturgeon.

Snagged carp .caught one years ago trolling fought forever and when my partner went to net it we both cursed a 25 lb carp foul hooked in the head.Was just starting out then and figured I had a monster ski on especially trolling
