I am not sure why, but I never run large jointed baits. I have them, but just never run them. I run big straights in mid summer through the end of the season, but just can't get myself to tie on the big jointed.

When do you run 10"+ jointed baits? Dirty water is the only time to me that would "make sense". But in the fall would still have a hard time tying them on over a straight.

On 9/28/2007 I got a 50" on a 10" jointed Believer. That don't work if you don't use them.

I run my Wiley 11" jointed lures all year. They work year round.

I use more jointed in warmer water, when it gets cold I would switch to straight baits. Worked for me. BR

I agree with others who say warm water is better in general for jointed baits. I really like jointed cranks if I am bouncing bottom. The back jointed section still has a good wiggle even when the head of the lure is digging. If I am fishing open water straight model cranks get the nod.

Until water temp hits 49-50...

But then again, what do I know? At least my two cents worth is almost worth two cents Canadian... so, as Bill Murray said in 'Caddyshack,' .... "So, I got THAT goin for me..."

May the fall of 2011 be your best FALL EVER!!!

That's really smart Husky... I just learned something! I use large jointed in the fall when  trolling slow, also at night about anytime because they have the extra action and noise.

At todays exchange rate, your two cents is worth exactly two Canadian cents (though, there has been a long trend where the Canadian dollar was higher and may go back to that trend).

We do best with jointed big baits (14" ++) in clear water in the peak of summer nights. They seem to call fish up better than just a straight body. Also, jointed big baits prove best early on river systems (red heads). These would be my first string baits in these situations.

Thank you Jerry.
Can someone tell me what a "Red Head" is? Sounds a bit painful.

Jointed baby d are the best spring baits on the market . Bigger jointed lures are super lures all year long till meat takes over. If straight minnows stop producing than try a joint and it could be the little thing that changes the day from a failure to a success ! Just another tool for the box .

I fish them often. My PB is on one, and fall of 09 they're all I could catch a fish on. I'm a fan.
