I'm curious to hear what some lures people don't have much success on for a change. Granted I have several in my box that just have not seen much water, but 3 of them have seen a lot and are yet to raise a fish or even have a pike hit.

1. Sucker colored jointed baby depth raider
1. Ghost custom colored little ernie I picked up at the Chicago muskie show one year
1. Cisco colored big foot depth raider. Bought it first year it came out at a muskie show.

I've got dozens and dozens that aren't productive. But I would bet that is in large part due to the fact that I only throw them when nothing else is working.

The Twisted Tulibee is my least productive lure. Very little action from the tails & it has to be worked very slowly else it rides on its side. I bought 2 of them at the Michigan Musky show & they are the biggest disappointment of all the new lures I bought this year. Not even a look from a musky. Even my Brunner Runner's get follows. Thinking about selling them.

X 2. Actually I don't know how I forgot that. I bought two of the large ones at the Milwaukee show and was quite disappointed. I cut the tails off one of them to use on other baits. The only way I've got them to look good is with slow lift and drop motion. Maybe the smaller version is a bit better but mine just sit.

Your least productive lure is going to be the one that doesn't see water. Does it matter how little a lure produces fish? Certainly isn't going to persuade me to buy whatever is your least productive bait, so I can't see this thread going anywhere meaningful. Personally, I'd rather see what lures people catch fish on, not what lures people don't catch fish on.

I have over 1200 lures. I throw 5.

Does that mean I own 1195 pieces of crap? No. It just means I don't use them or fish them comfortably. Musky lures are cool though. I buy more ever year. Some never see the water. Sometimes I get an idea in my head and by the time the season rolls around I have changed my mind.

I can say that one of the biggest disappointments that I have ever purchased is double 8 bucktails. I only have one that spins right every time. I don't care who the manufacturer is, nobody can seem to get it right. So I rarely throw them. I have been especially disapointed with the ones I picked up in Milwaukee this year. I own some of the older model ones and they seemed to spin ok, but the new ones don't. Oh well, plenty of other different lure manufacturers out there to check out.

1. Jointed little ernie in every color
2. Big Foot Depthraider (complete junk)
This next one will get a lot of flack but I don't care, because it is from my own experiences:

Cowboy,

I was anticipating a thread that would quickly turn into a bash-fest. However, I'm delighted to see civility in a discussion that could turn south. Remember, not all "guests" are cut from the same cloth so I'll break the mold and play along. Crummy day at work had me in a sour mood, but I guess I can see some merit in this discussion. What are your least productive baits, Cowboy?

The baits that haven't produced much are big crankbaits (Jakes, Grandmas), Depth Raiders, the Mag LOWRider (must be one of the only ones out there!), Tsunami, DDD, and creepers. I in no way attribute their lack of productiveness to the quality of the bait. Mostly the quality of the fisherman, or lackthereof, and simply the fact that I haven't felt like reaching for these "tools" very often.

Obviously, baits that aren't thrown aren't productive. Not much of a discussion there.

I have a Spro BBZ Swimbait http://www.spro.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=SSB80Z1%2DSF%2DA... that I've thrown quite a bit with 0 fish on it. It looks amazing to me in the water, and I keep expecting it to produce, but besides one follow from a sub-40", nada. I've thrown it in very good water at come back fish, and quite a bit of blind casting, and not one hit. It doesn't help that it is the most expensive bait I've ever bought ($50) either. I will continue to give it a shot every now and then, not as often as I did when I first got it by any means, but it looks too good to throw it away.

Little Ernies are another bait I threw quite a bit without results. I own 3 of them, and each has seen water time. Of course I rarely throw anything that size anymore, but I did my first few years fishing muskies... still nothing.

Tubes, surprisingly. Probably the most-thrown bait in my boat besides double 10's and bulldawgs. Both as throw back lures and search lures, but not one hit or follow. They look great in the water, I just don't understand.

Suzy Sucker? That was one of my most productive pike baits in Canada before I started making my SuperD swimbaits. You need to give that bait more time. JMO

For me its been spoons in general for musky. Work great for pike but the musky seem to not care for them. I love my Johnson Silver Minnow and Daredevils but for pike, not musky...

I don't see anything wrong with having a thread like this as long as no one gets out of line. Like i said I have many lures that just haven't seen much water so I didn't include them, only the ones that have seen hours and hours of time of on water with nothing to show for it. I'm curious to see if there's any trends.

Elkman good call on the jointed little ernies. I have had great luck with the solid body ones(unless it's ghost colored), but the jointed ones are a totally different story. Something else about the ernies I've noticed is that they seem to be great down in the southern reservoirs, but I've never had any luck with them up in Canada. Not sure if it's a forage thing or what.

Welldriller, try some Gerry's Girls 8's. I only fish smaller bucktails because of the smaller fish in the local rivers here. Gerry's bucktails are spinning the split second they touch down.

Usually, 'least productive' lure get wet almost exclusively when the 'most productive' are not working, meaning the fish are not going.

Manta. More follows than I can count. Zero strikes. I'm done with them. No doubt a better fisherman could turn some of those follows into strikes.

10" reef hawg. 8" and 6" have been good for me, I anticipated loving the 10", but not the same magic for me.

While this is normally true, I will make some exceptions to baits I throw at all times.

1. Bulldawgs. I've thrown these a lot, and I still throw them from time to time but I'm losing hope. I have never seen a fish, let alone had a strike on a dawg. In the number of hours I've thrown them, I would expect about 6 muskies and 30 pike in the boat based on catch rates of my more productive baits. I've tried every type of retrieve at every time of day at every type of structure.

2. Prop style topwaters. Both types, top raiders and the skitter pop type. I have no trouble raising fish with walk the dogs, creepers, big jitterbugs, even believers worked as a topwater. But I have never raised a fish with a top raider. The sad thing is I like to throw it to because of it's really easy retrieve at the end of a long day of casting.

Suzy sucker

I have to stick up for this bait....On certain lakes the thing is just solid.
If anyone ever fishes Eagle Lake try thowing one back at a fish instead of a bulldawg, it's a night and day difference which one fish will come after.

I think like golf, everyone just has certain parts of their game they are better at then others.

I for one couldn't catch a fish on a Jake, Grandma, or Weagle if my life depended on it but I know a lot of you out there can just nail fish with them consistently

Not a specific lure, but I can't seem to make any lure painted in a redhead color scheme work. Anyone else have a specific color that doesn't work for them?

Firetiger.

I hate that color. I know some people swear by it, but I just can't bring myself to throw anything that looks like a clown and a hooker smashed together.

I can't catch fish on ANY crankbaits. I've tried. I have darn near every kind ever made. Just can't do it. Casted and trolled on some of the fishiest waters in WI and MN.
