| we went in to close up our camp for the fall and fished about 4.5 days. from last friday-tues . fishing was terrible. I saw where there was a huge cold front which dropped the water temps around 10 degrees the day before we got there . Was curious if any other fisherman strugggled last week around that area. fishing is very tough every sept on the tou' but this sept was brutal. MD |

Location: Warroad, Mn | In the fall, when you a get sudden drop in water temps the fish will leave the shallows. Not too unexpected, as they don't like the sudden cool water as does most of there food. They will drop slightly deeper to find slightly warmer water as does most of their food.
We did pretty good trolling the 10-15 foot and at times deaper break lines on the LOTWs.
It's transistion time, the fish need some time to adjust to cooling water temps and different condidtins. They are feeding like mad right now, you just have to figure out where they are.

| We drug baits thru 16-25 ft quite a bit, like the majority of the time . we had 5 guys fishing, 2 trolling, and 3 casting. only had 1 good fish follow, caught 4 , all below 30 inches |

| We enjoyed that same frontal pattern up near Kenora on LOTW. We had 3 in the boat 42-46" and some nice teen'r pike. Most of our fish were located near sharp breaks adjacent to small shelf areas with rocks being the key. The fish wanted bulldawgs and ate on the 8 which is always fun.We threw the glides, divers,10's and cranks but always had the follow or strike on the dawg. It was also nice getting that first snowfall out of the way
As a note ..our biggest follows came out over water 20+ feet however trolling runs only produced pike. Despite the poor weather it was still great being up there this time of year.. I just wish the boss would let me runaway 1 more time !!!!! |
