| I know for the most part most people like to work a bait with the rod tip down because it can give you a better hookset. Does anybody work baits with the rod tip high? I do on some baits and it really makes some come alive with action. Gives a completelty different look to the fish. Other times I need it up there to work over weedtops otherwise everything gets hung up. |

| I like to keep my rod high at the beginning of my retrieve especially when I'm trying to boil a 9" granny. The flash along with some surface commotion will call up the biggest fish in the system. Also lose the lip. Get rid of those bulky lexan lipps on your jakes, grannys, trophys, ect. Replace them with aluminum, about the same gauge as a stop sign. They work better and are easier on the body. Those reinforced lips, especially the Jakes, are great for trolling, banging rocks, but casting, way too much drag. Good one,Todd |

| I purchase rods that are already "pre-bent"; each rod is angled for a specific bait, removing the annoying problems of trying to figure out what to do....[::)] |

| I'll reel in surface baits (wackers, topraider style) with the rod at about a 10:00 position. This helps keep the nose up a little and somtimes you'll get more spray from the tail.
I like to "twitch" the smaller Slammers in the spring with the rod upwards when I'm fishing real shallow (under 3 feet) and than have the bait make some splashing on the surface. |
