Posts: 8 Location: NE/IL | Will be headed back to the Woods the first week of July. We've been fishing the Big Narrows area up there about seven times now and have each trip increased the time spent muskie fishing. Last year we found several new areas to us and saw several large fish but could not convert follows or sightings into hook-ups. Any suggestions as to locations to look for fish (not spots but structures) to look for fish, methods and presentation suggestions for that time of year? We mainly fishe the outside edges of weedy bays and classic points, saddles and rock reefs. We tried bucktails, Cowgirls, XRaps, Super Shad Raps, surface baits of several styles, and crankbaits. While we got fish to follow all of these, we just didnt' get the hook-ups I thought we should. The fish really followed the XRaps and bucktails but we would mainly see fish and not convert. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get my dad his first muskie this summer. Edited by eyeman_1 2/5/2012 6:43 AM

Location: Not far enough north! | Sounds like you are in the right areas. If you are seeing fish you are doing something right. On lake of the woods the majority of fish that come into the net for me are on the figure eight. Not trying to be rude but the reason might be your boatside mechanics. Also make sure that when you locate fish that don't eat go back to those fish at sundown/moon set or when the weather changes.

Posts: 221 | Fish are different every day... Some days speed is key, some days a quick pause is required, and other days... who knows! As FR said, watch your boatside mechanics... Things should be somewhat smooth with minimal movement from you or your boat partner. There's some tricks out there that definitely convert more fish at boatside... To learn these properly, hiring a Musky guide for a day wouldn't be a bad idea. For me Big Narrows needs 3 lures for June: Cowgirl, Shallow Invader, and Big Game twich baits. Think all black, blk/chart and firetiger...

Posts: 8 Location: NE/IL | Got it! If you've stayed at Big Narrows Lodge, Wiley Pt. is not too far away, just a little further NE of you couple of miles. You are right, great water all around. One other possible choice a little further to the NE of Wiley is Crow Rock. I only boated around it once last year so I can't say anything good or otherwise about it. What you might want to do is venture a little ways out of Big Narrows. I've been fishing the NW Angle now for 11 years and can tell you the by far the most boats we ever see is in Big Narrows. It's like playing following the leader in there. So, for first time in 11 years, last year we didn't even bother fishing in the Narrows for very long. We hit a couple of our favorite spots here and there, but skipped the majority of the spots we would normally fish. Sounds silly, but I truly think the fish in the Big Narrows are probably more pressured that other areas of the lake. Which make the more difficult to catch.
