Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | I have a head scratcher. I use expert gps to manage my waypoints. I backup the data off the 520C then divide out by lake on the computer. Expert gps saves as .gpx files. When I want to put lake specific stuff back on my units, I "send to gps" which converts the .gpx files to .usr. I put the card in the machine and load the data. Been working great for a long time but something has changed. Now when I try to load this data, I get an error saying that it cannot load because selected mmc card or harddrive is full. That is not the case. I have two 520C units with the same problem. Both are running v. 2.5.0. So now the head scratcher - I take the same card and put it in my HDS5....LOADS THE SAME DATA NO PROBLEM! I'm starting to think there is a problem with the system software on the 520C unit and it won't read any .usr it didn't create. I say this because every one I try to load fails but when I back up the data that is already on the 520 and try to load it, works just fine. I even replaced the SD card just in case there was something wrong with the cards. Didn't make sense that it would be but tried it anyway. So I'm out of ideas. Can't find anything online. Lowrance's support site didn't yield a clue. Anyone else recognize this and know what's going on? Thanks, Jono

HDS and 520 running different versions Of files. When I put waypoints from hds to 520 I have to save the data to the card in the older version. Version three maybe? This is likely your problem. Load on your hds. Then save to card with the older format. 520 also dOes not recognize the new icons in hds. It will replace them with blue/white box.

Posts: 307 | Tfoot has the right idea. When you save your waypoints off the HDS you need to save them as version 2 (If memory serves correctly, either way they need to be saved in the lowest version # off the HDS) so that the older 520 can read them. The only difference in the newer version is that it also saves depth information with the waypoint, something that really doesn't matter when you're just transferring waypoints between units.

Your memory is full, delete all that crap you have on there! Brilliant!

Posts: 726 Location: Eau Claire, WI | Ahh guesto.....brilliant indeed. Thanks all for taking a run at this. Here is the issue and solution as guesto alludes to: The waypoints were full on the 520C units! Even though the unit reported storage as half full, the waypoints were all used up. So the storage capacity must be looking at icons, trails, and waypoints and then reporting a summary mix of the three which is kinda useless. It would have helped if it said "waypoints are all used up". I discovered this by trying to manually add a waypoint. That's when I got the waypoints are full message. Easy fix, I backed up the data I had on there. I deleted the waypoints and loaded the lake data I needed. Done. Hope this helps others in the same situation. Pretty much a "duh" that taught me to dig a little deeper next time before thinking it was the more complicated and less likely "possible" problem. Computers don't always tell the whole story or the right story. The 520C is no exception. Jono
