Location: Tomahawk, WI | Anybody know if there is a Mercury Prop Demo place near Rhinelander? I have a 98 690 Ranger with a 175 Optimax that porposes badly at anything under 4500 RPM, im running a 21 Pith Tempest plus. I believe a 21 or 23 pitch High Five would be the ticket to get the stern up and slam the bow down. I would like to test the hi-five or Rev 4 before purchasing to get the best prop for my set up without having to buy and sell a bunch of props.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Check with local dealers. Some may have test props from Merc, they are bright blue to prevent retail sale as new props. |

| Go see Denny at Fort Fremont Marine in Fremont. He has a demo program. Call to make sure he has props for your application. He's right on the Wolf River, and has a launch.
I'm betting the High 5 will be the ticket. I think a Rev 4 is too big for the 175.

| If Fort Fremont doesn't work, try Rick @ Brainerd Props. He'll ship you a demo prop for a 2 week trial for 25 bucks +shipping. Test at your convenience, if you don't like pay shipping back. He ships Speedee, so it's not very expensive. Google him, check his website. He has High 5's, Rev 4's, Tempest Plus ... Pretty much anything you need in Mercury's line up. |

Location: On the X that marks the mucky spot | You may want to talk to a prop guy ( a good one) and they can often tweak a prop for your boat/application. I think by adding some cup and/or rake to that tempest you'd probably be good to go. There's a decent guy that is on www.bassboatcentral.com that does pretty good work for a reasonable price. You'd be looking at sub $200 vs $400+ buying a new one.
