My Cardiff did the same thing last fall. This winter when i took the reel apart i found the plastic the button slides on had old grease that was dirty and really sticky. So i cleaned the parts and applied hot sauce grease. Now the reels works like new. So just clean it and apply new grease and you should be fine.

Just a side note...never use quantum hot sauce on a shimano reel...I do not know how that stands for other reels but that is straight out of the mouths of the guys that do the reel repair for Shimano.

It is because it made by Quantum !!!!!!!!!!!

Hot Sauce Oil and Grease are some of best lube to use in a reel, any reel !!!!!
