I need an anchor to hold my 17 foot Tuffy in a river current. I have an 18 lb mushroom anchor but I have zero faith in it holding my in any kind of current. So, what do you river guys use? River anchor? Fluke anchor? Do I really need to spend all the $ on a Richter?

River anchor works for me fishing current. I've used 18lbs, but when fishing high current areas like depere, found 30 to work the best.

Richter is what I use for everything, along with a Drop N Stay.
You can use the River Anchor in most cercumstances, but will need at least an 18 lber.

Which ever way you go, I highly recommend the Drop-N-Stay.

I have the Fluke anchor and it holds position for me fine. The river I fish is a combo of sand and rock.

Never did get a new anchor, believe it or not, the 18 lb mushroom anchor held me right in place. Now if I could only figure out how to quit scratching my boat every time I take it out, I'd be happy . GGrrrrrrr Glass repair is as expensive as a boat mechanic!!!!!

A big mess of heavy chain is what the driftboats on the Manistee, Muskegon and Pere Marquette rivers use over here. Not sure what kind of current gradient you're dealing with, but you can check that by googling the name of the river and USGS gauge.

use rope for most of the anchor line and add a section of chain 3 or so feet long ahead of the anchor. this will add weight so the anchor grabs better with less line out to run fish around without tangles. ex:when u have more line out it grabs better ect...... down side is on a river with rocks and manmade debris theres more to get caught on all the junk on the bottom
