| Guys:
Those of you with the larger ETECs (225 or 250) ... how much oil are you using per tank of gas?
My buddy has a 250 ETEC and the oil alarm and light comes on even before a full tank of gas has been burned.
Seems like he is burning way too much oil. I thought I saw something on the Evinrude website that no oil needed to be added for 50 hours or something crazy like that.

Location: Clintonville, Wi | Is his motor new 50hrs or less? When i first purchased my etec the first 50hrs it went thru oil like crazy. They claim no breakin period. I think computer uses more oil in first 50 or so hrs for a break-in, not sure on this but after about 50 hrs my oil consumption went way down and now have about 500hrs on it and use a gal of oil about every 75gal of gas.

Location: Cedarburg, Wisconsin | For the first 2 hours of running over 2000rpm the EMM will add extra oil. After that period of time it will be normal consumption.
I have a 3.3L block on my 200HO and I didn't use 2 gallons of oil in two weeks for about 150 gallons of gas on my last trip to Canada. Some big blocks can be set like mine to run XD100 oil only, which will reduce the oil needed even farther. If the motor is set to run TCW-3 it will use more oil.
Why not take it to his dealer and have them perform an oil usage test, where they accurately measure the oil being used. Then they will know if it is an abnormal amount like seem to think it is. |
