What are some rod recommendations for throwing small-medium sized bucks and medium sized hard baits? And also one for throwing the bigger stuff? I'm just getting into it and picked up a pair of 7' compre rods at Cabellas because they were on sale but quickly learned that they are too short for figure 8s. I really like the rods themselves. Actually my guide in Canada had a 7.5' and 8' compre rods for $100 each but I was stuck on an island with no extra money lol. Not looking to break the bank! I've got a Curado 300 and Abu C3.

Thanks,
Brian

What's your budget per rod?

Try to find yourself a good 8' to 9' rod rated for lures up to 4oz to 6oz (or your heaviest lure you want to throw). I know 9' seems little long for some but I was used to a 7' rod and went to a 9' rod and it was a dream to throw. Made me wonder how I ever got along without a longer rod.

Some good low to medium priced rods out there for you too. I own a 9'3" Okuma XH and a Diamondback and really like both, Tooth Tammer rods get good reviews, Black River rods, Pete Mania Bass Pro musky rods and I of course manufacture and sell 18 lines of Tackle Industries musky rods. Do some searches on here too for "musky Rods" and you will find a lot of good feedback to help you make an informed decision. JMO

Thanks for the info, James. I think we need to talk. I was doing research and it seems your rods are highly recommended among members here. A 9' rod would feel right at home as I surf cast with 12' rods. Your rods are within my budget too.

Brian... you DEFINITELY cannot go wrong with Tackle Industries rods!!!

I was using custom Pro Edge rods, which was very highly acclaimed back then... til one broke last fall while casting a Mag Dawg... I then purchased 2 TI rods and my other Pro Edge rod is now a distant backup... probably regulated to Sucker Fishing... Other rod competitors definitely does have a huge competition from Tackle Industries!!!

I have a friend, who after using my TI XXH 9'0 mated with Okuma Cedros, absolutely fall in love with this setup... Hes selling two of his backup rods and has sold two of his backup reels, just so that he can purchase a TI rod and Okuma Cedros... Thats a testimony in itself...
