Any recommendations on where to send some reels in to get repaired? They are mostly Daiwa Luna's, and Shimano Calcuttas.
Thanks!

I would send them to Chuck Brod at Sportsmans Repair Shop in Mosinee. Chuck has always done excellent work for me. I just dropped off a Revo and a TE there on Monday and he said they are caught up and the turnaround should be relatively quick. Here is his phone # - 715-693-6634.

Another vote for Pikemaster. Also Mats Reel Repair in Eagle River does very nice work as well.

Big reel expert. Salmon guys bring him their reels before they put line on them so he can replace the factory drags. Probably works on a thousand reels a year.

Bring them to Chuck Brod at Sportsman Reels (715) 693-6634.......not only does he do fine work but goes the extra mile when needing to pick-up at odd times or meet somewhere. Thanks Chuck.

Chad: I would love to work on your reels, I work on alot of Luna and Calcutta reels. U can PM me or email at [email protected] or call 708 514 7777
I can do upgrades on the drags and add a bearing to the Calcutta if U like.
I'm in IL and can have back to U in 2-3 days if no parts need to be ordered.

Pike, what bearing can be added to the calcutta and what effect does it have on the reel?

Thanks,

Here is Pike's post from 5/4:
Shimano ConQuest, Shimano CalCutta LJV, Shimano CalCutta TE. Best Round Reels. I can Clean and relube any Calcutta U have and can do upgrades on them, I can replace the bushing on the spool and replace it with a ABEC7 Bearing, that will keep the spool from flexing on hooksets, I like to replace the stock drag washers for Carbontex washers, you will gain a little on top end and the drag will be butter smooth, no jerking of line going out on drag, and I polish some of contact points to smooth out the reel, PM me for details

The 400B now has a bearing on the side of the spool, ck to make sure yours does, But the TE still has a bushing on the side of the spool so I can replace that bushing with a ABEC 7 cearamic bearing, what that will do is help support the spool shaft and keep it from flexing on hook sets and becomes a pinion support bearing that will keep the pinion in line with the main gear for a smoother reel.
