Posted on the other board too.

So I broke my Super Mag version of this rod on a snag trying to get a crankbait back. I've not broken much for rods ever, and the ones I did have been past warranty. Of course, finding my receipt is gonna be tough, though I may come across it. This rod is about 1.5 years old. I emailed Musky Innovations just now, but also curious what any of you might be able to tell me about getting a replacement if I cant find a proof of purchase. I'd like to not to be out the $140+ on a rod thats only seen 10 fish itself.

Later

The bottom half of this page has the warranty info for MI rods.

This section sounds like you might have a little trouble getting it replaced "PLEASE DO NOT SHIP RODS BROKEN DUE TO ANGLER ERROR, SUCH AS RODS THAT ARE STEPPED ON, CRUSHED IN CAR DOORS, OR OTHERWISE DAMAGED IN A WAY NOT DUE TO NORMAL FISHING CONDITIONS. WE WILL NOT PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT AND WE WILL NOT REFUND THE COST OF SHIPPING THE ROD." I'm not sure breaking it while trying to recover a snag would be covered?

I did find that info earlier and I wondered the same thing. I liked the rod but if there is some real issue to this I will try something different. I was carrying the Bull Dawg, an 8ft All Star, a Loomis, and a St. Croix that all saw time on a regular basis. I was really getting into that Bull Dawg.

Ask yourself if you really feel that the rods breaking is a fault of the rod or a fault of your own? IMHO it sounds like it's a fault of your's and not the rods. You might get a new rod if you send it in and say it broke on a hook set or something but isn't your integrity worht more than $140? I would feel guilty everytime I looked at the rod if I knew I broke it and had the company replace it under warranty. If you ran your truck into a wall would you expect it to be covered under warranty?

Well I was trying to get my crankbait hooked up on the bottom. I did pull pretty hard on it, but it did break while I was fishing and not in a car door. I guess I could have cut the line immediately and marooned my bait with no effort???

I wrote Brad a nice email and told him I would accept any info he gave me good or bad.

Brad Ruh has nothing to do with BullDawg rods other than his company name is on it. Its like Tony Rizzo putting his name on the South Bend rods.

Now, when you got the rod, you must fill out the warranty card. Did you do that? I got one last month from a guide that sells them and didn't get a receipt, but I filled out the card, sent it in, and should be good to go.

The company that makes them is called Trophy Technologies (or something like that) and the company headquarters is in McCordville IN.

I would totally think that getting a snag and trying to recover you $25+ lure attached to the end as in the scope of the rods capabilities. Not sure about most of you guys, but I know I have done full blown superman hooksets into rocks, ropes chains and other non movable objects. Bumping rocks and getting snagged at 5mph too.

I would think that if the rods is only a year and bit old, that it would be able to handle a snag release. This is a drastic difference to an impact on the rod tip like getting closed in a door.

Back in the 60's when I was about 17 I closed the trunk lid on my new Wondercast spincast rod. At the time Shakespear had a factory or warehouse not far from where I lived in Toronto so off I went. I asked a guy if I could BUY a new tip section. He asked how I broke the rod and I told him about closing the trunk on it. He said that if I had of said I broke it fishing he would have sent me packing but for being honest I left with a bunch of salesmans samples including 3 rods 2 reels and a bunch of lures.

That car a 53 Pontiac cost me 50 bucks
Before I retired my last pair of work boots cost $250
My new truck cost about the same as I paid for my house 39 years ago

Bottom snags are what lure retrievers are for ( better to sacrifice a lure than a rod ) I have only ever broke one rod on a fish when back in the early days of graphite I had a St Croix explode when a fish that still makes me shake poweres under the boat banging the rod hard on the gunnel. Waranty shipping and duty are an issue here in the Great White North so I will pitch a rod and decide to buy the same or try another manufacturer.
