Posts: 175 Location: Tonka, MN | I fished it a couple times when I was in college 2 years ago and didnt even see a fish. There was some guide I talked to that says he has the "hot spots' but who knows....they are there though. Edited by TC24 6/9/2011 10:06 PM

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | The map looks great, but the structure isn't what it should/could be. But there are fish there, and some good ones

Posts: 3518 Location: north central wisconsin | Lake was fun 4-7 years ago. Then, the severe drawdowns and supposed winter kills came and fishing got really tough to the point of dissapointing. Would be interesting to find out what happened, if there was truly a winter kill/loss of fish through entrainment etc. Still Muskies in there, but never was an action fishery, and less so now. Though looks like it on the map,it isn't a shield lake so doesn't look much like vermilion. Very little rock out there, save for a few piles on the west side, and some rock at the river mouth on the east. There was some limited nice cabbage coming back since the last drawdown(back in the early 90's). Now with the 10-12' drawdown again last year, the cabbage has to start over again. Posts: 357 Location: Duluth, MN | I live a mile from it. Its been tough! Lot like the big v in the fact That you get a lot of lookers and not a lot of takers. The weed situation sucks now due to the fact that MP&L has drained it way down the past few years. There are dome giants in there though if you can find em! Really chunky fish too, they eat well in there....

Posts: 39 | She's pretty cold hearted...I fished it quite a bit when I lived in Duluth until we found spots on the river. There are some big fish in there, but like stated, gotta find them. The buddy I fished with caught a real nice solid 50 out of there a couple years ago. I don't think the numbers are there for an action packed fishery but the quality is there once you find them. Like bdog said, MP&L really drained the lake too far, my buddy said last year some of the main spots we fished before he couldn't even get to because the water was too low. I may get some grief for this, but if you're going to make your way up to Duluth, I'd fish the river, many more fish and still the opportunity at some pigs. Otherwise, I'd spend another hour and a half in the car and head up to big V. Island isn't a lake I would travel up to Duluth to specifically fish, but that's my opinion.
