Earlier this spring after Mark and Tony made my extra wide bump board, I told them I had another idea in mind...something that I've wanted for a long time. By late April they had it for me, and I couldn't be happier with their results.

I wanted an extra large tackle box, bigger than anything out there that would hold more baits and keep them in place while traveling down the road or on the water. No more hooks getting all caught up together, no more jamming a few baits into a small square, I wanted a HUGE box with BIG squares.

My box measures just over 55 inches in length and is the exact height of my back deck. What is also pretty dang cool is Mark added little "runners" on the bottom of the box to keep it elevated off the drag and to keep it up off the back seat pedestals. I just got done packing it up for the summer months and after I had it full I had over 175 baits in this thing. An entire season worth of baits, at my finger tips. It also has handles on the sides to pick it up and small slots on each side by the handles to hold release tools. It is built like a tank and super solid. One more thing is each square has 5 holes drilled into the bottom to allow drainage.

Sorry for such a long post, but I couldn’t' be happier with this amazing "PENALTY BOX" they build me.

WOW!
I wonder how heavy it is ? (with lures)
It does come with a top, doesn't it ? Maybe a locking top........

I may have to order one of those.

I don't know how much it weights with the baits in it, but after I filled it up in the garage, I could lift it up and put it in the boat by myself. And yes, they do make them with lids that you can actually stand on, almost like an extention of the deck!!! I am also sure that Mark could put a few latches on it so it would be able to be locked as well. Mark is working on two different lids as we speak to see what people would like best and what works best. One would be a lid on hinges so you could open and close it, another would be to tool out a little bit of the inside walls so a lid could slide in and out. Or I am sure Mark could make you anything you would like. These things are built like a tank as well.

I also want to add that these custom boxes are going to be priced right as well. Not much more than a monster Lake wood.

I would still be worried about leaving in the boat overnight if 1 guy can lift it full of baits, hopefully the size of it would deter someone from steeling it. is there some way to fasten it to your boat besides screwing it to the floor?

What about a lid that is an actual bump board, you could hinge it on the sides so that it would open from the middle, one side, or the other, or both.

Great Idea: I was wondering about a way to store the lid under the box. Also a way to stop theft. The box is cheep compared to all the lures and tackle. I can also see a great use with it Salmon/Steelhead fishing. Because you need room for Large Baits, Tackle, Floats, Roe, and leaders. This may just be the ticket for Drift Boaters as well.
Way COOL to a guy that was thinking about us fisherman. THANKS

Very sweet box. What material is used for it? Is it strong enough to stand on?

If it's anything like their bumpboards (and it looks like the same plastic material) then I wouldn't hesitate to stand on it...as long as it had a cover.

Bob makes a smoke colored justencase now if you're really worried about other people seeing in, like tinted windows on a car. As far as this box, I think the integrated muskie bumper bump board on top of this box would be a killer idea, but you would lose the seamless top option (if you had the corners to bump the fish's nose against), could be a worry at night walking around.

This muskie bumper looks nice, but IMHO I would much rather get a justencase. Easier to clean and keep clean, and easier to find baits in. Also much more customizable, especially with removable trays.

Mark and Tony at Muskie Bumper make great products. Their boxes are custom made so if you want a lid they will make you one with a lid. Mikes is without a lid because that is what he wanted made. They will make it to your specs and they are made with the same materials that they make their Bump Boards out of. They are also much more reasonably priced than some of the other custom boxes out there and wont break your bank.

Cool looking boxes, and I think that for those looking for a box that is more economical then the Just Encases, this looks to be a viable option, although I have no experience with them. They do look nice though.

The clear boxes are NOT all that easy to keep clean and after having one for a couple of years the plastic starts to scuff from lures/hooks rubbing on it and is beginning to age a bit. Overall, it still looks great and I don't plan to change...
To be clear, I got a bunch of Makrolon (high quality, very expensive) material from work for free and built the box myself. I am not bashing any real product. Just stating somewhat of a generalization with the clear plastic - after time it will scuff and not look as good.
Being a do-it-yourself type of person, I would probably never buy a box but the muskiebumper products do look nice. And it sounds like they are reasonably priced. You'd have to be rich to afford some of the other products. That's my .02

BTW, pictures of guys standing on boxes showing the "strength" is such a gimmick. Any solid plastic material standing on edge is very strong. Especially if the weight can be distributed over the dividers too. Far from a selling point IMO.

looks like a helluva product and if it costs "as much as a lakewood" then it's logically priced too ...

A $200 box is a great deal considering $200 is just 8 cowgirls.

Jason are you serious that you worry about people seeing your baits? That's a little nuts.

Between my deck/box and my 'normal' Justencase Box, I have about 240 baits in my boat. I can still only throw one at a time. Your welcome to drive over and look at my baits anytime you want, I really don't see how that will help you catch a fish.

The clear material helps me find the bait i want much quicker, I love it....but I don't ever worry about what somebody else is doing in their boat while I'm fishing.

Moslty joking, but Cmon........ . This post WAS about a muskybumper box.
I still dont think I'd buy a clear box.....Although the baits I'm using most are usually in the front of the boat hanging in clear view anyway..

Posts deviate off the topic all of the time on here.

The box hulbert is pimping looks like a solid product...but I am very happy with what I purchased.

Good luck on the chain....I got my heart broke last night

I tend to put a little more credence into what the people that pay for the product say...rather than a Pro Staffer...but that's just me.

I have two older Just Encase boxes, beat them mercilessly, and they still look great. Maybe compare apples to apples instead of your home made box? Bob also sends along a bottle of cleaner/polish, haven't had the need yet to use it.

Being a do-it-yourself type of person, I would probably never buy a box but the muskiebumper products do look nice. And it sounds like they are reasonably priced. You'd have to be rich to afford some of the other products. That's my .02

If you will 'never buy a box', why offer adcvice on products you will never own and don't want to buy?

BTW, pictures of guys standing on boxes showing the "strength" is such a gimmick. Any solid plastic material standing on edge is very strong. Especially if the weight can be distributed over the dividers too. Far from a selling point IMO.

I have a couple big muskie boxes that are no where near as solid as the Just Encase, and...by the way... that image was taken to answer a question here as to whether the deck boxes Bob builds are strong enough to take abuse. It's obvious they will.

Muskie Bumper is a great small company, and Tony is a nice guy. That said, now that we all know the box is being made, enough of the advertisement.
