How did fishing go for you this weekend? I had to work Saturday, and the grandkids wanted to go smack the gills around yesterday, so no muskies....but the time on the water was good. Hot weather, but that's OK, we fished bluegills in record heat and had a blast.

You?

Last Saturday I boated fat 46" right away in the morning it was so windy and waves that I couldn't take good picture of it.. Only had picture of half Muskie in net. Later in the morning my buddy tag along with me. few hours later he set the hook on Muskie and he was yelling "HUGE FISH HUGE FISH!!!!!" the fish finally surfaced it was fat and approx 48-50 or more then a couple head shake later he lost it. It would had beat his personal best by 12-14" (it was his third outgoing of his life" All was caught on sucker. Went to different lake yesterday, it was tough day with sunny and dead calm.. Hopefully cold weather come soon!!!!!!

I didn't have a chance to get out this weekend and I wasn't too disappointed considering the weather. Talked to a buddy who hit the river saturday, they saw 7 fish but no takers. He said fish were following cranks for the most part, also saw fish on topwaters and 1 on a bucktail.
Finally a front coming in this week. I will be heading out for a few hours tonight, will report tomorrow.

Fished Lake Wisconsin on Saturday. We were supposed to fish below the Prairie du Sac dam, but my buddies found out there are no bars with food on the water down there and decided Lake Wisconsin sounded better :/ . Had heard about a little action below the dam, but no idea about the lake.

Hot and windy with 64 deg water. Fished some islands and some steep shoreline breaks for muskies in the morning with no action. The bass were going crazy hitting minnows on the surface in a weedy bay so we fished there in the middle of the day with only one decent bass for my buddy. I also got a small bass and small walleye.

Around sun down we hit an island surrounded by 8-10' water by the boat launch hoping for some last cast action. My buddy had a bad back lash so he asked me to come up front and work the troll while he fixed it. Looked down and saw his brand new black/orange Whopper Plopper sitting on the deck......started to think about those bass surface feeding so I snapped it on. About 5 casts later had nice fat mid/upper 30's fish take a whack at it and hooked it. Got to see a couple nice jumps, and a boat charging run to deeper water before it went in the net.

I had asked the guy at the bait shop about muskies, and he actually laughed a little and said "very few." So maybe I just got lucky, but it was nice to put a decent fish in the boat the first day on a new water.

Really kind of like the Whopper Plopper - it is heavy so it casts nice, it has a great sound, and it doesn't roll over in the water nearly as easy as a Topraider does. The downside to it is that it is heavy so when it hits the water it sinks down and takes a few secs to float back up. If you were fishing over weeds near the surface it would get annoying waiting for it to float up before you start to retrieve, but like I said the weight also makes it cast nice and makes it stable in the water. Really a nice bait IMO, and I'm going to pick one up.

ETA: That was my first ever topwater musky so I was pretty happy about that too!

Work has kept me off the water for tooooooo long!
I got out on Saturday on Pewaukee Lake.
It truly was a "Chamber of Commerce Calendar" kind of day. It got up into the mid 80's.......is this really Wisconsin?......in mid-October? Water temps were in the upper 60's.
We saw one small legal and two undersized. I saw no indication from any other boats, including some who had 2 and 3 suckers out and trollers, that showed any "positive muskie attitude" body language either.
I don't think that we are seeing the "fall feeding frenzy" yet!

I can report that a guy got a mid 40s fish on a sucker about 50 yards off my dock while I was slaving in the yard. Needless to say, I was questioning my logic in getting the winter prep work done before the rain moved in...

These warm fall days have never been the most productive for me. Beautiful days to fish, but the catching seems better when the weather is anywhere from seasonal to miserable imo.

We had muskies all over our suckers on Saturday. They weren't eating them, but they were circling them and following them like crazy. Bring on the cold weather. I'm tired of fishing in t-shirts and shorts during October.

Lol... Did that earlier this year. Made my cousin reach into the water to plug it.

Saw a lot of fish Saturday...problem was they were chasing...chasing suckers around and around. Also some follows on cranks and double 10's. Very frustrating being on fish constantly but not getting them to bite - assuring but frustrating.

Agreed with whoever above said that they've never done well in the warmups in the fall like this...great to be out fishing but the catching is lacking. Looking forward to some sustained cooling of water temps soon. This weekend off and then hitting it hard for the next two weekends.

Fished Gov. Dodge Twin Valley on Friday. Water was 62.6. Had a strike right away on a Manta but a weak hookset on my part saved me having to take a picture. Saw one other fish, probably pushing 40" smack something on the top. Shot several casts that way but it must have been full! Hit the Mississippi at Genoa on Saturday since it was so warm. 2 Small sauger, a couple rock bass, the ever present sheephead and one flathead. Felt good to get two days in a row in on the water!

I dont know what kicked my butt the most , battleing the 3 to 4 foot rollers on friday or casting a 12" bobbie bait all weekend . The bobbie bait was the ticket though , boated a 43 and a 38 on friday and a 42 and a 38 on saturday morning . With a few other swings and misses during the weekend

Folks, there is a magical water temp where muskies devour suckers. and we're about 15 degrees away from it. I KNOW you CAN(odds are not in our favor) catch them in warmer temps, but why kill a perfectly good sucker watching muskies just chase them when a good batch of suckers doesn't last a half day in a bait shop. I wont put one in the water till that temp hits 48 degrees. I have tried and failed too many times just watching a muskie follow for ever and my sucker slowly dies in the warm temps. Little bit of a rant, little bit of info!

Fished for a few hours last night, lost one on a hardhead right after moon rise. Hardly saw anything in the shallows, baitfish were stacked 14-20 FOW. Drifting a 15" sucker too - no pick ups.

Although 48 degrees, I've got two fish on suckers so far this fall. I guess I like to increase the odds of getting a fish in the boat this time of year regardless of the exact water temp.
