Location: Eagan, MN | My 150 Opti is leaking oil, and I think I've tracked it down to the cap for the oil reservoir (the one that is part of the motor, under the cowl). Has anyone had trouble with this leaking? I understand that the reservoir is under pressure, and the cap's purpose is for bleeding air from the system, and must be on tight. But I tighten as far as a can and it still seems to leak. The rubber gasket/seal on the cap seems really hard and maybe a bit too thin to provide a tight enough seal. Anyway, I want to ask if anyone has encountered the same problem and found any solution? |

Location: Twin Cities, MN | Yes, I had the same problem with the internal resevoir on my 150 Opti while on a trip 2 years ago. It was quite the mess inside the cowling.
I believe you will need to get the entire internal resevoir replaced, at least I had to. Mine was covered by warranty so I was at least lucky there. I have not had any problems since it was replaced.
I have seen a few others with this problem, but not very many.

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | Had that happen to me last year, also. Unless you want to use a locking compound on a plastic cap (was recommended to me by some, sounded bad), you need to replace the entire resevoir. Comment from the wrench that did the work "once the cap is unscrewed, rarely will it re-tighten again, you nearly always have to replace the whole thing". Was not my favorite comment. |
