I’ve been lucky enough to be invited to stay at my buddies cabin for musky opening weekend on Cass Lake (west shore). I’ve never fished it and am looking for a little assistance. Anyone have any good starting locations for me? Does anyone know where the main spawning area is so I can find the transition areas? Are there any special tactics that work or should I stick with basic spring tactics?

My buddy only fishes eyes, so he is clueless. They basically go to the cabin to jig hung over all day

Try the areas at or near where the Missisippi river comes in it is on the NorthWest side of the lake I believe it is called Allens Bay. If I remember correctly their is an old cross or something on the shore. If your fishing around their you should be able to get bit by something. Also traveling the river up to andrusia is cool and worth a trip. Good Luck

thanks for the input Chasintails. I'll definetly check those areas out. I'll let you know if I find this "old cross" too.

I fish Cass every year in June and the fish always seem to be out in deep water! We usually hit the flats early and late and fish deep water the rest of the day. Over the years people keep telling us to fish Allens Bay but we never seem to do well back in the bay that time of year.

Muskies are spawning on Cass right now. Water temp is in the low 50s. I went out electro fishing with the DNR last week and the fish we were shocking were in 5 to 7 feet of water adjacent to deep water on the west side near Allen's Bay. As of today they have 88 muskies that they have captured. After the spawn muskies will suspend over deeper water until the water warms up. Cass can be tough early. Explore open water.

Well i put my buddy Doc on his first ever fish. A little 37' incher on day two. He lost one the first day that was a little bigger. We only had two follows (mid 30's), but we did destroy the walleye
