Is there anything out there that I person can put in a home made tackle box that helps prevent rusting of the lures.

THey are making boxes that now that they claim to help prevent rusting.

So I am wondering what a person can do to prevent them from rusting. I know that hanging them out to dry when you come back from fishing is the way to do it. But what if you cannot do that everytime you come back from fishing. Say on a week vacation and you have no where to hang 200 lures!!!! Or what ever wty you take with you!!! Me if I have 250 then all 250 go with me!!! One never knows what it a fish is wanting every day.

So if there is something out there that would help I would love to know. I am in the process this week of making a could home made boxes and I would love to incorporate something to help prevent rusting!!!

Thanks
Mike

Flambeau makes a materail called Zerust that comes with their tray boxes. I just bought a few of them and divided the Zerust material between my boxes.

I don't usually go thru more than 10-15 lures in a day, though, and I just let them dry in the Pedestal Pal before putting them away.

I've heard a piece of wood will soak up the moisture. I normally just let them hang in my rod locker though. I use Plano boxes in my rod locker and my go to Baits hang in there so I don't have to pull them out of boxes all the time. After I use a lure I let it hang and at the end of the day I put it away.

I use those little gel packs that come in electronics boxes, vitamin bottles, and bags of beef jerky. They're the ones that say DO NOT EAT all over the outside of them.

They're made of silica and are meant to absorb moisture so it doesn't foul up your electronics, vitamins, etc so they must be ok for a tackle box.

I've heard not to use those silica packets. It has a chemical that can get on the baits, and when a muskie bites it, that same chemical breaks down enamel and deteriorates their teeth.

I know the state not to eat them but never heard if they would do harm to a fish. Will have to search the web and see what is out there for info.

Where would one find soething like this to use. I would assume that if taken care of you should not have a issue with them breaking or tearing a hole in them.

But I would love to have something in the ox just to have for weekend and week long trips to help keep them from rusting.

Not sure what your opposition to the Zerust is, but it works great and can be cut to fit in any size compartment. Just buy a couple of the Flambeau trays (they cost about $7) with the blue stuff in them and divide it among your boxes. I haven't had rust issues since I started doing this last year. Not sure how much easier it can get than that.
