Posts: 114 Location: Kingston, Ontario | Some friends and I are planning on going to a cabin located at the outlet of the French River/Georgian Bay. We're going to be hitting up Walleye and Pike but also would like to go for musky for a couple days while we are there. (We will arrive before opening and be there for opening day in Ontario) Anyone have any experience in this area that can share some locations or tackle they have been successful with? We are all fairly new to musky (! between the group total) but that 1 got us hooked.

I have never been there but... If you can get a copy of Len Hartman's book, "Before I Forget," you can read his account of almost unbelievable night fishing at or near where you are going. It sounds like a great trip.

I'll have fish located and GPS'd for you. I will give you a shot at a min of 10 fish. ![]()

Posts: 332 Location: Michigan | Try to find weeds, which could be difficult that time of year depending on how the spring progresses weather wise....... What dates will you be there? I know Georgian Bay and the Lower French have different opening dates for muskie.

Posts: 114 Location: Kingston, Ontario | Thanks for the offers guys. Unfortunately the trip is full. We will be heading up for Georgian Bay musky opening. I understand French River is opens 2 weeks later. We have been up to that area before for musky opening. Last year weed growth was sparse...our best success was still in the shallow flats or just off the drop offs from them. It was a high pressure system last time so we had consistent very warm weather and sun for that time of year We observed tons of fish in the shallows but was very difficult to get them hungry for our lures.

The Lower French River (west of hwy. 69 to georgian bay) opens for muskie the 1st Saturday in June. The muskie opener on Georgian Bay is the 3rd Saturday in June. Good luck and enjoy your trip.
