| i have something discharging my starting battery (slowly) and am unable to find it.
i have installed a master kill switch, which kills everything except motor.
this started 2 yrs ago and i have spent a few hrs metering this thing out with no results.with master on , i have something drawing 1/3 amp, what ??? no shorts or grds never blew a fuse,
with kill switch engaged, i get 4 days and the battery is flat dead, disengaged i get a wk- 10 days
i'm starting to believe it's in the motor, what would draw power and not blow a fuse in a 92 merc 2 stroke??
anyone have any ideas ??

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | A leaking filter capacitor in the electronic voltage regulator that regulates the charging power to the battery when the engine is running. It's also not typically disconnected when you turn off the master switch.
By leaking, I mean electrical leakage-> current. As capacitors age they start to fail. Normally they have very low leakage current > micro-amps. Increasing leakage current is a sign of failing capacitors. Average life on DC electrolytic capacitors is ~10-15 years. Its also why after ~10 years, your TV repairman has an intimate relationship with your wallet.
Considering that your's is a 1992 motor (19 years old), I would suspect either the alternator regulator or the ignition control module.

| Do you have an external gps antenna? If so this can draw current too. On my old boat I installed a switch just to turn this off since I didn't have a master power switch. |

the stator and the volt reg have been changed, i'll keep looking,
