Hey guys, been looking to add another rod to my attack. Been looking at the Big Nasty for double 10s and bulldawgs for the superior figure 8 capabilitys, also I just got my Bass pro northern angler catalog and saw the Bass pro Muskie Angler combos. Does anyone use the muskie angler rods/reel combos? for just a little over 200 bucks it doesnt look like a bad combo maybe something in the 8-8'6" range. Also what reel would you apply to the Big nasty? a Winch, Torro, or Calcutta? would like the winch but dont want the rig to be limited to just D10s.

Posts: 538 Location: northern indiana | I just purchsed an 8'6" Old School Tackle Musky Sieres Rod and paired it up with a corvalus 401 and couldn't be happier. Great for casting and trolling and the total combined cost was just over $200.00. Hope this helps and Good Fishing.

Posts: 540 Location: MN | If you go with the big nasty pair it with a 400te that rite there is a bad a$$ combo any lesser of a reel would be like towing a 620 with a VW bus.

Posts: 134 | Agree with the TE on the big nasty... a match made in heaven. I have been building my inventory of rods, lures, and equipment over the years and I think I finally have an "invetory" of stuff. During my annual hook sharpening and equipment maintenance I and had to take a step back think about what I have spent and then think about what it takes to catch a muskie. The equipment you are looking at purchasing is arguably some of the best available but by no means do you "need" it to catch fish. My biggest, 51 1/2, came on a zebco rhino spinning rod and 12# test mono fishing the WI river fishing from a canoe/river bank!! I haven't been in the sport nearly as long as many on this board but I am amazed at the advances in equipment. From reels, to line, to electronics and rods, etc... But, after all that, a guy still has to go fishing to catch fish. Sorry for the rant... go with the TE if its in the budget and you'll be casting the ferrari of muskie setups.

Posts: 323 | those old school rods look nice but i have a problem with the guy listing them as being made from MI Bulldawg rods when there are NOT and i know this for sure because both owners of Reaction Strike told me they weren't and 1 of the owners is the guys son-in-law.

Posts: 24 | Big Nastys are also on muskyshop.com's webpage, under rods........... What would be the advantage of a split grip? Is it a balance preference or simply just for looks? Seems like i would like the full cork better, more in front of the reel for my taste. But they do have that entire line of musky mojo rods, so there must me some kind of niche' for them.

What do MI and Reaction Strike have in commin??? Just courious. Posts: 1023 | The 8'6" xxh Bass Pro rod is a great rod for the $$$$$. It is very similar to my slingblade but handles mag dawgs better. Save some $ and buy that rod - then splurge on the reel - cause that is what is going to break down first if you go too cheap. Landry

Posts: 323 | I have asked myself that many times. not sure but i would guess it has something to do with money. I tried to let people know when those rods 1st came out but the guys running this forum don't like the truth and deleted it even though at the time i had the emails from both owners stating they were not. The tackle and equipment forum is a joke. You will never hear the truth on it because only postive feedback is aloud. MI and Reaction Strike are the same company owned by the same 2 guys along with a few other companies. Sorry but the truth is the truth. Same thing happened to me with the Petros/reaction strike rods. They are also listed as being made from bulldawg blanks and thats not true either. Think about it. A bulldawg rod is what $250 and the OS is $100.

Posts: 538 Location: northern indiana | I would think they would have a lawsuit on their hands. That being said, I'm very happy with my OS rod and intend to get more in the future. Landry, that BP rod is nice for the money as well as that is my backup. Thanks for the info guys.

Posts: 582 | you tend to cast a split grip rod differently. At least i do. Its actually a good thing. So far i really like my split grip MI rod. The only issue i can see is that it may hurt your ribs a tad at the end of the day. (no cork where i usually have it against my side). But didn't really have the problem this weekend. I really don't have a preference. i have both and you don't really notice after a while which is which. At least i didn't.
