Posts: 388 | I switched my storage compartments from 3" PVC pipe to this 4" vinyl "post jacket" with very good results today. Much more space efficient - I was able to consolidate my arsenal freeing up room for other things. No wasted space between the tubes. Can easily get 5 lures in each tube with enough wiggle room to get them in and out individually. Cuts easily with a chop saw and I used white electrical tape to band the tubes together.

Posts: 388 | Here is a picture of the PVC pipe that was used previously. As you can see, this arrangemetn allowed 2 or three lures instead of 5 per tube with wasted space between tubes and with pipe wall thicknes. Attachments ---------------- IMG00053-20100718-1407.jpg (81KB - 201 downloads)

Posts: 255 | Post covers can be found at Home Depot. He posted a link for them. I went and bought a length yesterday. I will be building mine today. I did this in my old boat but I used regular vinyl downspouts and they were too narrow. The baits would get all hung up on each other. This is much better because the opening is much larger. They had 5" at my Home Depot as well. I stuck with the 4"

Posts: 582 | or you can just use vinyl downspouts and cut them to size. i have made serveral home made tackle boxes using a milk crate with these downspouts. Same idea as above.

Posts: 255 | Yes, same as the downspout version only it is better for larger baits since the openings are 4x4 instead of like 2 1/2"x 3"

Posts: 422 | I like the idea, what did you use to hold them together?

Posts: 582 | for my tackle boxes, i just used some clear adhesive in tube i got at menards for $2. Dab a little on the sides and squeeze it together.

Posts: 255 | You can just use white electrical tape. Or I used a bead of white caulk at the seams and on the sides of each side that butts up against another. It works great. I may make a 2nd set that I can swap out for different types of baits. Do like one row for topwaters, one for hair, another for jerkbaits. Just swap our rows depending on what you want with.

Posts: 3240 Location: Racine, Wi | Excellent work! I have the same boat, and will be running out to get this stuff to fill one side of the storage and get rid of some stow aways from under there. Do you have much of a problem with baits tangling when running the boat? Did you put notches in the top to keep the baits in place? May help keep them in order.

Posts: 388 | I cut the tubes to 9.5" length and this works well for hang height while also keeping clearance between the top of the lures to the bottom of the storage lid. Using a chop saw you will need to fit the front / outside tubes to contour to the hull so those will be shorter than the ones on the inside two rows. I put smaller jerk baits in those tubes. Normally I do not have too much trouble getting lures in and out.

Posts: 956 Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | TIP: Use a fine toothed finishing/siding blade for cutting these. Less chipping. PVC cement workd well as do pop rivets along the bottom. I used both when made mine and at 260 lbs ive put them to the test standing on them, stepping on them boarding the boat, or cut to the height of rear platform and use them as an extension of your platform. Never had a tube come loose. Thats overkill if youre only using them below deck/in storage compartments. Karl

Posts: 388 | Karl, Would love to see some photos of your rear platform. Was thinking about something along those lines when I originally bought the material but was able to consolidate to the point where it wasn't a necessity.
