Posts: 4343 Location: Smith Creek | TFF doesn't have near the density of muskies or anglers compared to The Chip. Your chances of a 50" fish are about the same on either one.

Location: Northern Wisconsin | Which ever one you choose I would recommend a guide if it's your first time. On the TFF Brian Long comes to mind.

Posts: 156 | Brian Long is an excellent guide for the TFF area. I caught my first musky out of his boat (see my profile pic) and if I ever need a guide in that area again he would be the first guy I would call. However I did not fish the TFF so I can't comment on that water. I fished the Chip last July with a group that wasn't dedicated to fishing so time on the water was somewhat limited. In about 5 days of fishing I caught one (35"), lost one (mid or upper 30's), and had a big girl follow a crane and disappear at boat side. One of my buddies caught a 47" on top water with a thunderstorm moving in. I also spent a 1/2 day with Tanner Wildes and we didn't put a fish in the boat, but he is a good guide. It was a rough windy day and his boat control was pretty incredible. Bottom line is that the Chip has a lot of pressure, but the fish are there and they are catchable. I do not consider myself anywhere near a "good" musky fisherman, and if I can see and catch fish anyone with reasonable skills should have a good shot. If you want less fishing pressure and a shot at a big musky the Gile Flowage is an overlooked spot IMO, but there are no resorts on the water so it is trailer in and out daily. Posts: 1030 Location: APPLETON, WI | Hopefully, this isn't too off-topic... but I noticed on the DNR website, the chip has 18-official campsites but they're only on a first come, first served basis. Do these go fairly quickly? I e-mailed both of the chambers of commerce that the DNR lists on their website for other information but have not received any reply. I'd like to have a contingency plan in place before driving upwards of 4 hours north. Anyone know if there are any other recommended locations for camping on the Chip? TFF?

Location: Northern Wisconsin | The TFF has a lot of island camping. Here is a link to the DNR's site: http://dnr.wi.gov/org/land/facilities/turtleflambeau/camping.html As far as the Chip goes, I have heard that the campsites fill up on weekends but if you arrive early in the week you should have no problem finding a spot.

Posts: 1293 Location: WI | Expect lots of people around Labor Day on the Chip. Ty Sennett is probably the best guide on the lake. Tanner is also pretty good there.

Posts: 706 Location: Richland Center, WI. | Camping on the Chip? I would recommend the Lake Chippewa Campground located on County CC right in the middle of the east and west sides of the flowage. Have stayed there several times. The owners are really great! Sisko's is also on County CC right before the Lake Chip campground. Sisko's is a first come first serve type of deal the way I remember it. Good place to stay if you are just up to fish. Ken

Posts: 727 | I have never fished the chip, but the TFF is a very nice body of water. Definetly bring a lure retriever along...saved me 250$. I had the best success fishing the main river bed.

Sisko's has good camping and a bar if that is something that interests you. Lake Chipewa Campground is very nice too, with no bar. But Herman's Landing is pretty much across the street if you want a drink.

Posts: 556 | I have fished them both and spend time every year right at the Turtles back door around the mercer wi. area. For MUSKY and a chance at a really nice fish---spend your time and money on the CHIP. Just a better choice as far as musky is concerned. If I was fishing the springstead / mercer / park falls area for Musky there are better choices than the TFF. Now for walleye and smallmouth and some large fall crappie and perch you can't beat the TFF.
