Location: Suburban Chicago | My 2-stroke 90HP 1996 Johnson has developed a bad noise. I'm not a mechanic but a it has a heavy click or knock. If it was a four stoke I'd say it's like noisy lifter click, tied to RPM. I've not experienced any lack of power (yet). If I was guessing I'd say it's piston slap, connecting rod type noise or maybe something in the lower unit. Over two days fishing this weekend it got worse.
I need a mechanic quick. I've used Berquist in Lake In The Hills in the past. As far as I know they are Johnson/Evinrude service for the region. Problem is they are ALWAYS backed up a couple weeks before they even LOOK at the boat.
Any recommendations on a mechanic or a shop? If this needs real work I'd like it COMPLETED within the three weeks or so.

| I use Berquist as well. Good guys but small shop so they get busy of course. Since I got my ETEC I have been going to D's Marine on Mchenry. They are on the river. They got my stuff done in a reasonable amount of time. There number is (815) 344-3250. Hope this helps.

Good, honest guys. Dropped my boat off on a Thursday, it was ready Tuesday. Worked on 2 outboards. Woulda been ready Saturday if it wasn't for the boat cover repair.
PS - that was last month though.
