with this cold spring we have been having we are bound to have an interesting opener this year. even with the cold weather I will be on the big V for opener. just wondering what some other people are going to be up to, sticking to smaller lakes close to home? or making the trips to the big water up north?

Going to miss opening day due to niece graduation on June 4th but will be out on a metro lake on Sunday. No sense in driving very far for just one day.

Was really bummed out when I found out about the party!!!! Opening Muskie!!!! Opening Walleye, Bass and Muskie should be a national holiday and there should be no other activity going on those days other than FISHING!!!!!!!

Been waiting since last Oct when I had lung problems that ended my fishing for the year and now I have to wait ONE more day!!!! KILLER!!!!

Considering the low water temps at walleye opener the metro could very well out-produce the north lakes this opener. No sense is leaving active fish to find inactive fish at $4.00/gal.

I would avoid Vermilion early with the cold spring. Things could be very tough there. Save some cash and fish the metro instead.

Fished a small metro lake this afternoon for crappies and water temps 53-55. Never seen water temps this cold in mid may.

Don't deny a good chance to catch big pike in water temps under 64 degrees in shallow water they won't be in again till fall. Just pick a lake without Muskies out of respect because they are anxious to spawn right now in certain parts of Mn. Glides like of course the twisted sucker should produce fished slowly.

It was 90 degress in the metro today and the long-range accuweather forecast is mostly highs in the mid 70s-80s for the next couple weeks. I monitor the water temp for the St.Croix at Prescott on here...

Tim did you see the huge walleye kill on Waconia!!! Must of been 300 plus walleye killed. So everyone might as well just stay off that lake and head up to Millacs where all the walleyes will hanging out in 9 mile flats.

Its still a few weeks away from the opener so a lot can happen before then.

Colder water temps don't always mean slower fishing. Muskies do what they want and will eat if they want to. Colder water temps might require one to downsize your lures or slow down your retrieve, but the fish will still be there.

We've always had pretty good luck around the cities...no sense going that far north for 2 days with $4.00 a gallon and gas gussling trucks...

I will be close to home on June 4th but heading up to the BIG V on the 7th or 8th. The lower water temps up there might mean a good chance to contact a BIG blondie that may not reappear until November. It's worth 10 bucks a gallon to get the chance at a 55+.

Spring Bay has 48* surface temps (6 ft of water) as Ice out was 8 days ago. no weeds will be growing any time soon................ Cool air temps for the next 5 days or so,... and the water is about 14-16" high right now.... bait fish are popping all over the place......

I plan to be on the water for Walleye opener Saturday, and then casting for that 45" Pike in the afternoon in order to beat my PB 44" Pike from 6 years ago.
Have a good and safe weekend.

Jerome

snagged a 8-10lbs carp today, but didn't land it. and no... i didn't try to snag it. the ultra light does not equal a good carp set up.
59 degree water in 3ft of water (sand) small lake east of metro (non musky waters). main lake 54

Mille Lacs was 45-48 on the main lake, up to 55 in back channels. Saw a bunch of muskies doing their thing this weekend in the back channels.
