Wondering how high the WI river is for this weekend? South of Point.
Thanks

I went down there a couple of years ago. Point area and south of there on the W River and I'd never do it again. Way too many boats for me, all fighting for the spots closest to the dam. If you're from up north like me, I would suggest going even further south to madison area. Just my .02
Either way good luck!

High and higher I'd say. I was there for Easter and it was flood levels. They've gotten some rain since. Talked to my dad this morning and he said everything seemed to be significantly behind. And yes, you'll have company below the dams and spillways. Later in the year everyone is more spread out since the fish are more spread out. If I was going there for opener I'd try any warm water inflow, not just the dams. I've never muskie fished there on opener so I can't give you much for specifics but I will say we used to have a fair number of bite offs and shake offs while walleye fishing there this time of year on typical jig and minnow combos. First time I've ever seen someone suggest the Mad Chain to get away from boating pressure (and oddly enough, he might have a point there). By "south of Point" do you mean the spillway and Whiting dam or Rapids/Nekoosa area, or Petenwell, Castle Rock, etc.?

Was out today for the opener on the WI river south of Point and the water levels are getting back to normal. Still more flow than normal, but not bad. Saw a musky hooked/landed from shore. Spring is usually busy around the dams and spillways....

On opening weekend all lakes from the Rainbow Flowage to the headwaters were almost full, Rainbow is only 5 ft down at this point. But from the flowage #*^@ down to Boom lake the river was very very low for the opener. Now, as of this past weekend the River has come up some so it seems the northern portion of the system is starting to fill and they are letting some additional water down compared to a week ago. Lots of water between the rainbow and SP though...
