Posts: 48 | My brother and I live in the suburban Chicagoland area. We have a 4 and a half day weekend in October to pursue musky. We have a good amount of musky gear including a 18 ft Crestliner. While numbers are a goal we would also like a shot at a trophy. I am a good shallow water and structure angler as opposed to a deep water or trolling bite. We were thinking of a trip up to northern Wisconsin or Minnesota. Hayward area lakes, or Park Falls/Flambeau river, or Eagle River/Minocqua. Leech/Cass lakes, or the Bemidji region, or Vermillion. My brother and I are hardcore anglers that will fish in any weather and would also be interested in alittle walleye or bass action to break up our day. While I like the big fish potential of the big lakes I'm concerned about locating fish or being blown off these lakes. Where would you go and why? Any suggestions?

Posts: 547 Location: Oshkosh | Sounds like you need to join the October fishing club up in the Presque Isle area. Will fit everything you are looking for, and at a price you wont beat! http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=65... Check out these other links from last year. http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=60... http://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=61... Posts: 43 | I would head to Vermilion, big fish and lots of them in the fall, walleye fishing is very good as well, the fish are located in predictable spots. Talk to one of the guides that fish the lake in the fall or research some resorts so you can get a feel for what to expect..

Posts: 1530 | you should consider l. st clair ,detroit river. all species. plus theres a great oct bite for over 50 inch fish.. staying on the canadian side reduces run times to under 5 minutes from launch, and protected waters.

Posts: 238 Location: Rhinelander | If the 4.5 days included travel would stick to WI or Minn as time is a premium. With that in mind hiring a guide for a day to shorten the learning curve for current patterns wouldn't be a bad idea. Early or late october could mean turnover if selecting just one lake and why I might lean slightly towards WI with endless lake choices close by. As you indicate numbers first with a shot at a trophy second would point to WI also. 4.5 days is not too long of a duration if this includes travel and fishing for other species of fish, best to plan your destination and time wisely.

Posts: 81 Location: NEW | You'll want to check with Skyview to see if the October Fish Club is full. Otherwise, M1st normaly has a 5 day outing at Spring Bay around the middle of the month that's a lot of fun. As far as finding spots to fish on Vermilion, every one is real helpful on that outing.
