| I am heading to Hawaii in a few weeks and was curious if any of you folks have fished with charters in Kona. Any suggestions or referrals would be great. Thanks for any help, BR |

Location: Des Moines IA | Tred Barta went out with this guy. Looks like he knows Kona fishing rather well.

Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | The best captain in Kona is Kevin Nakamaru. He runs a boat called the Northern Lights - He is probably one of the most famous captains in the Hawaiian islands if not the world - He has "granders" in something like 5 different seas. He is the guy you want to fish with. He may be booked solid as the hot marlin bite there is getting under way. If so, then there is an outfit called "Bite Me" Charters. They have a solid rep as fish catching machines, not to mention have several boats with several highly recommended captains.
Kona overall is hurting for business, so they may give you some deals. |

| I would agree with Jerry, the Northern Lights is a good boat.
Just be careful of "guaranteed" trips. We went on a guaranteed trip and half way through the day we pulled up to a lava flow and started jigging and caught some jack fish. While the jack fish were fun, it was like a musky guide guaranteeing a trip and then pulling up to some lily pads and catching bluegills.
Be specific as to what you want to do. |
