Don't know the answer to that.....but here is some info probably more valuable to you that that.. the meeting is at 5:30 not 7:30 like all the other events. They are doing it because the meeting is on a Sunday instead of a Friday....I would have let that go right over my head except I heard it from Beth last night on the phone when I was making sure our team was registered. That system is going to get beat to a pulp Sat and Sunday with all the pre fishing going on and no LVD tourney this year. I bet alot of spawning fish will be snagged in that tourney! Hope not but when there's money on the line......

They are stripping suckers to provide food for the newly hatching muskies. Pictures soon...

If the suckers are spawning I doubt ALL of the muskies are done spawning. At least from my experience on those area lakes.

150 of us only bothered eight fish for just a few minutes each last Saturday on Pewaukee (and yea, I know I didn't catch a fish) so you are likely to have little to fear from this crowd. On the other hand, we will be in your hotels, in your restaurants (OK taverns too) at your bait shops, filling up at your gas stations and spending money at all the sorts of places where the folks up there like to see the visitors spending money and most of us behave pretty well and let the cops go to bed early. You can also even re-think the concept of fish getting beat up in practice (mentioned above) because we are there to catch a fish on Monday, not give a sore mouth to a fish Saturday or Sunday that will be a sure-fire non-biter during tournament hours. The tournament footprint will usually look a lot more like a moccasin than a boot, not leave a mark for long and have most of the folks who make a living of the tourist industry very glad we were there. But, gee, I would sort of like to catch a fish too once in a while!! Marty

Hey Marty while your up here, stop over and buy a well and a septic from me. I'll give you the musky fisherman's discount.

I think you read too much into Craig's and my posts Marty. I just plainly stated what I thought about the fish spawning out there if the suckers are spawning based on past experience.

Personally I wouldn't take just one person's word that they are done, or not done. I'm one that has to see it for myself.

Good luck in the tourney. I am sure the results will be better than last week.

A couple of year a team did not register a fish in this tourney because it was snagged (not on purpose) and their teams ethics. So it is not always about the money. Majority of the teams that fish the Pro-Mac (past WMT) care about the fish. Can it happen for any lake up North on any year for the opener, yes it could. does it happen probably. The tourney's during this time of year have probably less harm on spawning fish than the average person does this time of year. Twin is a deep clear body of water and known for lagging water temps compared to some of the other lakes in that area but the numbers of fish that they have caught during this tourney in the past has been pretty impressive. I know I might head over there this weekend to try and find some active fish myself and I am not fishing the tourney.

Hey Welldriller, I just bought a new "well," it's 50 inches long and I will be bringing it with me. As to the septic system....my original plan was to just pee in the lake, but my partner has not been catching fish any better than me, so maybe I will let you install one where the rear casting deck now stands. Give me a decent sized seat for the toilet however, cuz I am still not doing that good with my diet! :-) Marty

Travis,
They started pulling the nets yesterday (would have finished, but a boat had mechanical issues) and are moving to another lake, probably a bit late but in time to hit the later portion of that sucker run according to the muskie assessment team working there. My son runs one of three netting crews (sadly understaffed, IMO, budgets suck) in Woodruff, and worked Walleyes early, then muskies, and now suckers to feed them (both walleyes and muskies hatched and will be hungry, can't get the suckers too early or they will be too big and the skis and eyes won't be able to eat them). Since he's on the water running the nets seven days a week right now and works with all the crews, I thought he might have some insight. That where the info originated.

Thanks for the info Steve. Do you know if they are assuming the muskies are done spawning since they are not getting any in the nets? I have seen muskies on lakes spawning in different locations as much as 2-3 weeks apart from another location.

I did learn something in this thread, and that is the use of sucker eggs (assume sucker fry) to feed the newly hatched muskies. Was never aware that was what they did, and think it’s pretty cool. Never saw much for fyke nets on some of the lakes in that area I fish that are loaded with suckers. Which is a tip…If you want to learn what your lake has for forage spend some time on the water from the walleye opener till now and you will be amazed at the sucker populations you see as a result of their spawning!

Pardon this turning into a spawning thread, but I find it interesting and the only way to learn is to ask questions and challenge what you hear. ;) While you may think you know something by persuing answers you may in fact learn you didn’t know much to begin with! ;) ;) :)

They pull the nets when most of the fish they capture are done spawning and the production needed is too light coupled with too few fish in the nets. They might move the nets a couple times while collecting roe to hit all the best spots.

Dr. Sloss's work has changed the landscape on how all this works as well. Interesting for sure!

Know of one fish caught opening weekend that was dropping eggs. Soooooooooooooooooo not all fish were/are done spawning. Perhaps that one was just in the process of starting to obsorb them.

For the record not on Twin though.

Fishing was tough on Monday for the tourney. There was 32 or 33 teams...only 2 fish caught. 40.5" was biggest

I was informed via a PM that during the Sunday afternoon practice, I was driving very slowly down a breakline (not fishing) trying to establish a fishing route for the next day's event and that I (although only going 2 or 3 MPH) ventured too close to a fellow fishing with his son. He felt I motored too close to where he was fishing and that I showed rudeness to him by doing so. So, while I clearly didn't realize that I was bothering him...I do certainly apologize for doing so. I will look a little less at the graph and a little more around me so that I don't offend in this way in the future. Marty Forman

Marty or Nate I am curious to know if you or any others fishing the tourney saw any fish that appeared to be spawning during the tourney since it was brought up here?

I saw no lovemaking activity, except for when my partner caught a fish and I was loving him pretty much right at that moment. Seriously however, the fish we got looked like he had just been the only Democrat at a Tea Party convention...totally having had the ever-loving crap beaten out of him during the spawn. Photos are not up yet on the WMT site, but I hear the other (winning fish) was also really beat up too!

Travis,

I was there over the weekend. June 3, 4, 5. Saw one pair spawning in the reeds on the south shore. Saw lots of sun bathers on the sand along the north shore. Had lots of slow lazy follows. Fish were really beat up. Had one short hit at the boat without a hookup.
