Location: APPLETON, WI | After starting my "Wide Glide" thread earlier this morning... I thought this would be best for a separate thread. I did do a search but with the addition of more and more larger jerkbaits and giders being introduced to the musky market, I'm wondering if anyone has made any new purchases for a larger jerkbait rod? That being said... Does a 6'8" - 7'6" [shorter] jerkbait rod exist that can handle big gliders and jerkbaits? Something that can easily be used to finesse a jerkbait and get it to glide insanely wide... while at the sametime, being capable of handling a bait such as one of the new 10" Phantom Softails? At nearly 10 oz., the rod would need to have enough backbone to launch a jerkbait of that size while also having the dedicate finesse tactics. Does such a creature exist? |

| Yes, The Musky Innovations 7'6" XH is great for that. I use it on all my big gliders.

Location: Smith Creek | I just picked up a 10" phantom from R & H (thinking ahead to October) plan on using my st. croix TM76XHF (the jerk) It throws pounders ok in a pinch (13 oz) so I don't think 10 should be a problem. |

| Okuma EVX 6'10 XH would throw a ten ounce bait pretty effortlessly. If you like something a little longer, the 7'4 H would be a good bet too. Both rods are rated to 10+ ounces. |

Location: Price County WI | Tooth Tamer makes a 7'6" XH Jawbreaker Jr that I have used the last 2 years for large jerkbaits, it's rated up to 8oz but I throw bigger baits then that with it. |

I've never personally seen or used the lure myself. |

Actually, I do have a TI Rod. (2) at the moment, actually. Both the XH versions. And don't get me wrong, I've nothing but positive things to say about the TI rods... but they're both 9' rods and not exactly ideal jerkbait/glider rods. They've got a bit too much length to them... they work, but probably not an optimum like a shorter XH/XXH probably would. If James is reading this... I need a 7'0" XXH jerkbait rod.  |

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | I'm odd I prefer the 9' for all my baits. I have 4 9 footers and 1 8'3 and the 8'3 hasn't seen water since late June 2010 and then only due to forgetting my other rods at home that day ( long story). |

Location: APPLETON, WI | Nuthin' wrong with that at all... I can definitely get the bait to glide with my 9-foot rods.
But depending upon the boat I'm in, I find that if I'm really working the bait aggressively... the tip of the rod starts smacking the surface of the water. Plus, I'm guessing I'd have a bit more control over the bait itself. |

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | Guess I haven't had an issue no matter the boat I'm in, I fish out of several every season fron Z-20 Ranger bass boats to mid 80's Alumacraft tillers to my Skeeter deep V. To me personal preference and what you'r used to. Everyones different and there realy is no right or wrong answer. |

Location: Land of the Musky | I need another warehouse! 1000 rods packaged takes up about 8'x10'x48'. Right now I have about 1500 and 3000 in production. Uggh on the storage space. I will make a shorter jerkbait rod but probably in 2012. Making some 2 piece 9' rods for air travelers and European market right now. Hope those work out well but need to test them. Jerkbait rods and trolling rods next!

If you've got my new 1-piece, full grip, 9' XXH rod ready... that's one less you'll have to worry about storing!
