Location: Michigan | Does anyone use the Revo Toro 50/60 with the 5.4:1 ratio for big bucktails or does everyone just use the winch? If people do use the 5.4:1 ratio, how does it hold up? I know the winch is amazing for big bucktails, but I usually like to fish bucktails faster than what the winch allows. |

Handles double 10's just fine. Not sure about 13's, haven't tried. |

Location: APPLETON, WI | I use my Revo Toro 60 (5.4:1) for double 10's... it's definitely a bit of work but it does the job and handles the job just fine with no issues at all. Double 13's? I've not even tried to be honest with you. I plan on adding the Winch to my arsenal for big blades... |

Location: Contrarian Island | the speed you can get double 10s moving with a trinidad or saltist vs conventional reel is about 50% faster with less effort...using a revo to try and burn 10s is crazy imo |

| I have several of the Revo Toro 60's. The 5.4:1 is a good all purpose reel in my opinion. If I was only allowed 1 reel in my boat, that would be the one. If you are going to switch baits constantly throughout a day with some double 10's mixed in it is a great reel. It will not burn them in but if you keep a steady retreival it will not wear you out ...too bad. To use this reel only for double 10's....... you would be much better off purchasing the winch. Location: Contrarian Island | a winch won't "burn" double 10s..either will a 5.4 or 6.4 ....true "burning" is only accomplished with a reel built for it...it's not too hard to figure out... winch is a great reel for double 10s at avg to slow speeds and really shines with a TE power handle on it.... unless you want popeye forearms you will never be able to burn double 10s all day with a Revo...plain and simple.
my point is, if 2 guys were standing side by side, one with a revo (pick any of them) and one guy with a trinidad and you each cast at the same time, equal distance casts...
the guy with the trinidad will get his bucktail to the boat about 25% sooner than the guy w the revo and the guy w the revo will be reeling like a madman when the guy w the trinidad will be using much less effort... I know, I've done the test. |

| I use both the 60 and the 60HS for big blades depending on speed I need to run. Both handle the big blades well and I know the Winch does as well. It depends on what fits you best. The Winch cranks easier due to the lower gear ratio and the HS runs faster due to the high gear ratio. All are great options but boils down to what fits you and your arm best.

Location: Hopefully on the water | I have run the 5:4 and the winch for dbl 10's and not had a problem with the reels. The only thing is that it I can not burn them in with these reels. I like the feel and way they handle the baits for normal to slow rolling. I wanted to have a reel to realy move them and switched to the Saltist 20lw and can see a huge difference in speed on the retrival. The Triandad would have been good also for speed but didn't want to spent the extra money.
The only thing that I will say with the Saltrist is that it is different reeling as far as more shoulder movement (imo) than a normal reel. Maybe it is just the way I hold the rod or reel it in but that is the one thing that I have noticed with this reel. The level release you get use to real quick.
As far as the Revo's though. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one. I have been happy with the 3 that I have. 1-50 winch, 1-60 winch, and 1-60 in the 5:4 gears. The 50 is a little smaller for my liking overall but my son really likes it and has been using it last year. I think they 50 is a good suite for somone with smaller hands. |

| There is a popular saying out there "right tool for the right job"
I've seen people use crescent wrenches for hammers before also.
For high speed reeling double tens the right tool would be an Trinidad, Saltiga, or an Avet JX or MX, they have big handles with durable construction under load and have big line pick ups 46" per crank.
The Toro Revos are excellent reels for the right use and I sure wish I had more in my arsenal to replace some of the big cumbersome ones I currently have that are still in too good of shape to ditch. |

Location: APPLETON, WI | I will stress what blackriver advised.... the Revo Toro 5.4:1 is my all-purpose / go-to reel. I couldn't be happier and it does MANY jobs much better than others. The only thing I CANNOT do with this reel is "burn" a Double 10/13. I can throw double 10's all day long with my Revo. Is it going to "burn" them? No, of course not. But burning a double 10? That's a pretty niche scenario as far as I'm concerned.
I would rather have my Revo Toro 60 (5.4:1) that can do everything BUT burn a double 10...
than have a Trinidad simply because it's sole purpose is burning a double 10.
Just my opinion. |

| BNelson- your the only one talking about burning double 10's. We get it.... you like the saltist or trinidad and those are great reels for burning in 10's...hands down, no questions asked...start a different thread to talk about it. The original question was how does the 5.4:1 handle 10's, compared to the winch.
To answer the 2nd question I feel the 5.4:1 held up very well, with moderate use, pulling in 10's. I beat the crap out of mine and kept it in the boat for others to use. I didn't oil or grease it as much as I probably should have, but it still works great. (which is more than I can say for most reels I use) Again if you are going to pull those big blades more often than not....... you may want to look into something else. |

Location: Michigan | Thanks for all the input! I've used the winch a good amount and it is so easy to use for big bucktails but definitely can't get the speed I want a lot of the time. I think I will stay with my Induron for this year, but look into getting a Saltist next year as speed kills :). |

Saltists are a phenomenal reel for burning big blades. I have the 30 and it handles 13's like they're 8's, and its WAY cheaper than the Trinidad. It casts better too IMO, although I haven't tried the new Trinidads yet so I can't say for sure about them. I felt a Saltist 20 that was on display at Cabelas, and I think my next reel will be one of those. Fits the hand like a dream with all the same specs and power of a 30. |

| So you can't slow roll with a saltist or trinidad??? I love my Revo's for what I use them for, but if I wanted a reel for both burning and slow rolling...I think the Saltist would be a better choice than the Revo and you cetainly wouldn't want the winch if your goal is to go a little faster in speed with your double tens. You can reel slow too with any reel.  |

| Avet reels are in left. They have numerous models. The SX is the smaller the MX is the mid and the JX is most comparable to the Trinidad 16. I use the MXL with Mag cast control.
Do a search here under Avet and you will find a lot of info. |
