Posts: 90 Location: Athens, Ohio | I thought I had read on this forum that with a power handle on these reels that they would engage during a cast. Is this true? If so, what's the fix? Does a power handle make these pull big baits REALLY any better. I read the current post on "gear ratio and double 10s", it sounds like this handle, which looks longer- will pull better? Who has put on a powerhandle and really noticed a difference?

The power handle has never made my 400b engage. And yes it does make reeling in double 10's much easier. You will not want to fish without this handle on the reel ever again after using.

As for pulling bigger baits i do notice a little difference but if you dont have a reel thats geared to pull lots of line or at a lower gear ratio your probably not gonna notice alot of difference.

Posts: 624 Location: S.W. WI | I have had mine engage on me a few times at start of the cast, BUT.... I ONLY have it happen when I over cast, Bomb it, (try to cast a mile) with a Mag BullDawg. If I just cast normal it's never happened. Makes dbl 10's easier to reel. (noticably easier for me) -Jon

Yes they will engage, dont try to bomb them and hold the handle or point it back towards you. I still need to call you Pike M

Posts: 501 Location: S.Wisconsin | I modified a ljv power handle without the countr weight for my 400b and love it. I have never had a problem with it but as others have said you should try to have it pointing down or slightly back towards you.

Posts: 1185 Location: Iowa | I have a power handle on my CTE400 and love it. Make sure the drag is tightened down all the way when you put the power handle on, screw the nut on then loosen the drag to the desired level. I have had the reel engaged a couple of time but just make sure the power handle is in a position where it won't engage and you should be fine.

Posts: 74 Location: Brainerd, MN 56401 | Mine has engaged on the cast quite a bit, but I still prefer to leave it on. It only really happens when throwing Pounders, Monster Medussa, ect. I got the extended warranty from Gander, so if it ever fails I'll get a new one.
