I am just getting started trying to paint some newly carved Muskie Lures.
I have read some pages on the forum & still have ??????s
What are the proper steps for painting from start to finish?
are these the correct order?
sealing the wood (minwax sanding sealer)
Primer ( Kilz)

Createx paint

Devcon 2 ton or envirotex as the top coat.

I have Createx paints an Iwata Airbrush, Minwax Sanding sealer, Devcon 2 ton Epoxy, lure turner spinner.
I have read a ll sorts of ways to paint.
Like said still confused.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

1. seal with thinned etex (denatured alcohol)
2. paint with white createx
3. paint design
4. let dry for a day
5. full strength extex 3 thin coats or 1 fat coat of devcon

let that epoxy set up for a good week before use. or better yet get a 2k auto clear and save a ton of time and hassle.

I've also heard of some guys spray a light coating of clear lacquer over the paintjob...let dry for 1/2 hr or so and then you can apply the epoxy right away. I personally don't use the epoxy, I use straight clear lacquer. I also think a primer coat is unecessary....if you use a wood sealer, 2 coats, let thoroughly dry, scuff sand and paint white Createx right over it as basecoat, then paint your pattern. No problems.
