Subject: Battery

I have a basically brand new cranking battery boat was purchased last july, i took the battery out of the boat in oct. i went to charge oit and it shows the amps as 1, should this battery be that low? Could the water level in the battery be low?

If it's only taking 1 amp charge, it's probably fully charged.

Take it back as most companies will offer an exchange for most of the value. Sounds llike you got a bad batt.

Are you saying the charger read 1 amp when you tried to charge the battery? If so, it means the batter is almost fully charged. If you had a meter and it read 1 volt then you'd be in big trouble. A fully charged battery is about 12.68V when resting. If it is lower than that, say 12.3V, it needs charging. Then if it says 1 amp when charging you have a problem unless you are using a trickle charger and then it wouldn't mean anything again. If your volts are low, you have a 10 amp or bigger charger, the battery is at the correct level, and it reads 1 amp when you try charging, then the battery is bad for sure.

Was the battery cold when you tried to charge it? Cold batteries resist charge and small chargers may not have enough output voltage to force a charge in.
Best Guess, it is probably charged.
