Message Subject: Boat Rental for Pewaukee

Posts: 267 | Anyone know of any (reasonably priced) boat rentals near Pewaukee? I have my own but I have a few friends who are considering fishing the ProMac on May 21 but need a short term boat rental Friday afternoon through Sunday morning. I've called a local dealer / rental place and they were asking an outlandish price. Smokey's has aluminum fishing boat rentals but they're not exactly fit for the tourney. Any thoughts?

Posts: 1220 | Keep in mind that while YOU CERTAINLY are able to get a judge boat to come out during these events....it is still primarily an event where you are going to want a really big enough livewell to properly transport your fish. Generally, there is only one judgeboat available and your desire not to wait could cause you to get frustrated or to mis-handle a fish and give the whole lot of us a bad name. I would reccomend that you spend the money you have to spend in order to get the kind of livewell in the boat that you need.....or come the week before and fish the Pewaukee Classic where you can release your fish immediately. Or, if you really want to fish it on the cheap, rent the aluminum boat from Smokeys, bring a Fraibill Powercatch or larger net, and then just wait for Tom to come out and judge your fish knowing that the net provides all the needed comfort for your fish while you wait. Naturally, Pewaukee is small for a tournament lake, the boat time is not long as long as you are not in a community feeding window sort of bite! Marty Forman

Posts: 267 | Sigh. Marty, I was merely asking for any reccomendations for boat rental places from those who know the area, I've been fishing for musky for 30 years and know how to handle a fish properly as do my fishing partners but thanks.

Posts: 76 | Dont be so hard on Marty he is only trying to help. Plus you have to remember he is old and stuck in his ways. But dont let that fool you he can fish like the best of them. You should ask him if you can use his Ranger after he gets his 2 and gets off the water. That should be around 8am. So they would have pleny of time to fish that day. All kidding aside did you try Summerset Marine I am not sure but they may have a rental like you are looking for. Your post here is not a bad start either. Some really good people on here. What are you looking ro spend on a rental anyway?

Posts: 267 | Ha! I was not trying to be hard on Marty. I guess I just didn't take kindly to the "give the whole lot of us a bad name" comment. I was gonna ask him if I could use the livewell in his fancy boat since he wouldn't be using it but I digress. :) I asked because we are looking to spend less than $550 per day... The price I was quoted by a local place. Not sure about the rest of you, but I think that's a bit outlandish.

Posts: 1220 | Ouch! Sort of choking on my words here (not the first time either!) I sure did not mean any negative with the "giving us a bad name" thing and apologize for offending you. I would like to explain a bit however! First, I will be front and center to own up to who I am as a musky angler. I am an older, somewhat overweight and balding guy who has a big boat and the time to write a bunch of crap on the internet, and I can afford the boat because my father built a really nice company and then died and left it to me. I get that, and I also get the painfully small space my trophies take up on the table. So, please know that I am not trying to make another person sound like "less." I know that when I see two young bucks in a john boat with their shirts off and no-name equipment, I am probably about to get out-fished too! But.....HERE'S THE THING, I love fishing these events, I have only written 50 times trying to either defend them or get more people to try them, but there is a certain sector of perfectly good and sane musky guys who don't like tournaments and especially don't like the ones where fish are transported to a judging station. On the other hand, the WMT (now called Pro-MAC) where fish are often transported is a really fine organization, run by really nice people, where it is likely that the most guys, fish the most tournaments, for the most combined money, and with more than a 99.9% healthy release record. Sure, I love the PMTT where there are a dozen judge boats hanging around at your beck and call--but the entry fees totally reflect that too. So, my whole thing here, (and I don't know who you even are without a name on the post) is that I want to watch out for giving anybody an opening to "unload" on the tournament if the thought is out there that guys are maybe jaming fish into picnic coolers or in anyway not acting to protect the fishery. Any WMT guy will tell you that the longest minutes in the world are the 15 minutes that they make you stay for after judging your first fish....just so that you do not rush the release! Anyway, without making an already too long post any longer, I will just say "Sorry" and also say that Pewaukee is my home lake and I would be happy to help anybody who comes in anway you need, on the water or off! Posts: 2691 Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Not much for fishing boat rentals here on Pewaukee Lake. John at Smokeys is the main guy who rents boats on Pewaukee lake. They are your basic boat and motor deals. A guy could bring a trolling motor and battery to make them a usable boat. There is much to be said for treadding lightly across the water with a little boat. I know when I started to get into the larger boats I had to be better and better as a fisherman to keep putting fish in the boats. All things equal I would bet my last dollar that a lighter boat will catch more fish. Now a big Ranger will keep me where I want to be all day in any weather, that catches me more fish. Marty was correct in saying you will have no problem fishing in one of Johns boats and calling a judge boat once you have your first fish in the net. It can be done, I see it all the time. Now if the weather and wind get nuts it could keep you off some of the spots you wanted to fish. If I hear of a guy who would rent you one of his boats I will post it. The Pewaukee Classic is a great little tournament. Its May 14th and only $55 bucks a person. That is our Milwaukee Chapter Muskies Inc tournament and banquet. Call Bryan Blanke @ 262-703-0399 for more details.
