Location: Oswego, IL | Opinions please. Shallow Mag dogs/D's .VS. the regular Mag Dogs/D's, I am going to LOTW and splitting my "new bait budget" up so I am only going to be able to pick up a few plastics and wanted opinions which people prefer. Thanks

Posts: 742 Location: Grand Rapids MN | For LOTW I would go with shallow versions. Maybe even give the new double dawgs a try. You can fish the shallow version deeper if the structure allows it but tough to go the other way. Otherwise I'm normally a bigger fan of the deeper version.

Location: SE Wisconsin | Well each has a time and place.. You fishing flats or you fishing deeper water? If you're picking apart shallower rock reefs and/or cabbage patches, a shallow dog ripped through can instigate some explosive reaction strikes, but if you're fishing deeper water, than the obvious suggestion would be to go with the regular weighted bodies.. Sometimes I find myself in 60 foot of water throwing shallow dogs because the bait is riding high in the water column and maybe their looking for a slower presentation than my usual sweeps and rips.. The shallow dog will have more hang time because it's lighter, so you can work it in slower than say, the regular weighted ones that sink a foot a second..

Posts: 443 Location: Indiana | I find myself buying more shallow. Then if I want a regular, I attach a bell sinker to the front split ring. Works for me.

Posts: 2295 Location: SE, WI. | Check out the Hellkat for LOTW's. Much slower fall than the dawgs shallow version. A good part of the woods is fished shallow. I've done well on the cork Hellkat on the wooods....

Posts: 2295 Location: SE, WI. | I checked with smokeys bait yesterday. He had a dozen Hellkats hanging in his shop, and some real good colors left. Smokeys Phone # 262-691-9659.

Posts: 15 | Curly sue in slow sinking would be another option. Much slower fall than the Shallow Dawgs.
