Let me just start by saying that I posted this on another forum and got a ton of feedback. I'm sure many people on here also use the other site, but I am very interested in saving time and money from your experiences. I've done more than my share of fishing over the years, but my experience targeting truly big musky and pike has been somewhat limited. Last year I decided I was going to make this a focus and have been gearing up to do so. As it stands I feel pretty good about my gear selection but am trying to figure out if there is anything I am missing or maybe need to change. Also, I am wondering what are some of your favorite lures. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Here's what I have so far specifically for musky fishing.

2 7' St. Croix heavy rods with Abu Garcia reels spooled with Suffix 65lb braid
1 7'4" Okuma musky rod - no reel
Flambeau Musky Maximizer Lure Locker
Plano Big Game box
55 assorted lures
4 Terminator 100lb leaders
Beckman Husky musky net - coated with extendable handle
15" Hook remover
Knipex hook cutter
60" floating ruler

Thanks,

Adam

A solid first aid kit.  No joke.  A really stupid injury will bring your musky fishing to a screeching halt.

Split ring pliers, spare split rings and spare treble hooks... things happen and if your lucky lure is handicapped out on the water, you're going to want to repair it as quickly as possible.  Musky fishing can be a huge mental game and you don't want to be down for the count if something happens out there and trust me... things happen.

Thanks guys. I do have plenty of headlamps as well as a few tapes for measuring girth, at least a couple jaw spreaders and a split ring pliers. I'll have to look at getting a bump board and some longer pliers as well as some extra hooks. Good point about the first aid kit. One of those hooks could ruin your day in a hurry.

Digital camera. The day you forget it is the day you're going to make some memories... whether it's your personal best or just seeing something out on the water that day you've never seen before. And invest in a decent memory card, too. There's nothing worse than getting hopes and seeing the photos you've taken during the day/night are NOT on the memory card because of some malfunction.

Also, I invested in one of these this year, too. A Plano Guide-Series waterproof utility box. I saw this mentioned on one of the fishing shows a few weekends ago on TV. I got the medium one to hold my cell phone and any other valuables you're bringing with you fishing that day. It's completely waterproof and I'm certain it'll pay for itself this year.

Lots of good info here and everything I would have suggested has been mentioned. Only thing I would add would be a bottle of crazy glue either in the tackle box or the safety kit or both. Trust me. Not only does it fix lures but also skin, that hook you just pulled out of your arm after cutting the barb off with the knipex - use super glue to seal up the hole and stop the bleeding.

55 lures will not do. You need to go out and buy another 200 more lures before your season starts that way you know that there is something in that box that muskie will like.

That is what I told my wife when I was organizing all the lures that have come in the mail as well as all the trips to many stores for sales. After filling up 2 mag Lakewood boxes and med 1 I still have some many lures to find a home my wife was about to hang me when she was finally able to see what I have been buying simce last fall!! I filled up the recycle can with all the small boxes that I have gotten in the mail from just this site alone. Did not include all the EBay stuff!!

LOL I am just kidding about getting another 200 more 150 should do it!!!

LMAO!!!! :0)

Thanks guys. Lots of great info so far. I can't tell you how many times I've used super glue to close a gash. Also, I typically have 2 or 3 cameras in the boat and they are generally in a waterproof container similar to the one you use PSYS.
